That fucking squirrel!

Got back home and damned if the pest had not returned. It dug out more crocus bulbs, damaged some about to flower, trounced part of the clover and then dug out part of the mulch on the Alberta spruce.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Now I need to place chicken wire on everything. ;P

I do love nature. Really. I do...

Have you considered giving your plants a light dusting of a hot spice such as cayanne? From what I understand, it won't hurt the plants, but it might make the plants a bit less appealing to the squirrel, assuming the little rat-with-da-fuzzy-tail (don't you just feel the love?) isn't into spicy food. After we get rid of the pesky squirrel, we'll need to figure out what to do about the talking moose....

There is a product called pepper wax, which coats stuff with cayenne-style substances. The wax just makes it remain in place. Maybe I'll try that...If I have anything left when I go home. This morning I noticed the lil' beast(s) had cavorted around the mulch on the poor spruce. Oy!

Our squirrels like to eat our pumpkins, use our potted plants as an obstacle course, knocking them to smash on the porch just for fun. The spicy seasoning sounds like a good idea, have to try it on the pumpkins.

Knowing my luck, if I tried it, I'd end up having a squirrel which likes spicey food. You could also try what my grandfather used to keep pests out of his garden, but I don't think your neighbors would approve of 12 gauge shotgun blasts resounding through the neighborhood.

I am a vegetarian, but I will note that I own the edition of Joy of Cooking that has a recipe of two for squirrel meat.

I love red meat too much to go the vegetarian route. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, honestly. However, while I've never had the occasion to eat squirrel, my father has, and I don't think he recommends the flavor. Ewwww... I may be a country boy, but I'm not quite that country! :)
