image manipulation tools?

I have yet to install any image editing software on Laptop Primus. It is probably time to get some. Win7/64.
All I really do is crop things, select similar color regions, and apply gamma or brightness/contrast or level or hue changes within the regions. Blur and sharpen are nice too. Creating pixel-level icons like I use here is nice. Ergo, I ( Read more... )

Using Linux on my desktop, I don't have too many options. But I haven't found anything that I couldn't do with GIMP.

Yeah, that was my base guess. I just figured if it cost oodles it'd do a lot more.

Not necessarily. But even if that was true, given your requirements, GIMP is enough for you. And with the single-window interface, it even looks like Photoshop!

I really like Photoshop, but I get it (legally) for free.

On Windows, I have heard very good things about paint.net, which is free.

GIMP makes me want to chew my face off, but that's me.

I only tried GIMP when it very first came out and was underwhelmed.. but it was still basically a starter back then.
