Well, it finally happened. That 14 billion dollar piece of shit in downtown Boston that we all paid for has finally killed somebody. I’m honestly surprised that it took this long. Fifteen years of cost overruns, mismanagement, shitty concrete, and hundreds of leaks later, and only one person is dead. I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky, huh? Well, as far as I’m concerned, the death toll shouldn’t stop there. What we should do is take every employee of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, fire them all, and disband that bloated haven for incompetent bureaucrats once and for all. Except for Fat Matt Amorello, the arrogant son of a bitch chairman; he should be dragged out into the street and shot. Follow his execution up by that of Rip Van Reilly, our illustrious Attorney General who’s been asleep at the switch since being elected in 1999. Thanks for the great oversight, Tommy Boy. Then we move on to Modern Continental, the contractor responsible for the leaky, dangerous tunnels. Not only should they be sued for every nickel they’re worth, and forced to fix the entire fucking project gratis, but once they’re done, they should forever be prohibited from building so much as a goddamned sandbox.
So they say that the 3-ton slab of concrete that fell and killed 38-year old Melina Delvalle last night wasn’t a structural piece of concrete, and that the tunnels are safe. I say FUCK YOU. For years, we’ve known about leaks, debris falling from air vents, and just last year it was revealed that some of the concrete used in the tunnels may not have been freshly mixed. Give me one good reason why I should risk my life just to cut 20 minutes off of my commute.
I hope there’s a whole slew of lawyers lined up ready to represent Mrs. Delvalle’s family in a gross negligence and wrongful death suit, and I hope they win the biggest settlement in history. You know why? Because enough is enough. I’m a taxpayer, and I have been enraged for years at the level of incompetence that has characterized this project from day one. We’ve had to put up with asshole workers literally asleep on the job at $40 an hour, a contractor who has charged us to re-do work that was shoddily done in the first place, and politicians and bean counters who have turned a blind eye to the leaks, deadline extensions, and cost overruns.
Well that’s fine, because all it’s meant up to this point is that money is being wasted. But not anymore. Now the game is different. Now there’s a woman from Jamaica Plain who won’t be going home, and somebody had better be held responsible.
