4x02 Late Reaction Post

*waves hello to community*

It's been awhile since we had one of these, so how about a reaction post for those of us in the US and elsewhere who can't get the episode until a bit later? I know sometimes I feel a bit awkward joining other comms' posts when they already have 200+ comments. ^_^

In general, I've LOVED 4x01 and 02, but akdlfajsd they're laying the self-sacrifice theme on a bit thick, aren't they? It's like Arthur, Merlin, and Lancelot got together to play this really competitive game of who can die first.

And oh! My Lancelot! I did not see that coming. o_____O But this explains so much about how Gwen and Arthur are going to end up together even though Gwen obviously still has feelings for Lance. I'm blindly assuming Lancelot comes back later somehow? (I don't read casting spoilers, but they CAN'T kill off Lancelot for good, right?) I've been feeling pretty unsympathetic toward Gwen, but if she marries the wrong guy because she thinks Lancelot is actually dead then... yeah, suddenly I have a lot more sympathy for her.

I like that Morgana seems slightly less unrepentantly evil these days. I chose to believe that she couldn't bring herself to kill Gwen in cold blood and that's why she left her just knocked out.

I love this show, but for some reason, there are multiple things that I had a problem overlooking while watching, but I don't want to go into them. My main problem remains a deep regret that they turned Morgana off-screen between S2 and S3. I now find her motivations to be entirely cartoon-like and somewhat unbelievable and irreconcilable with the woman we met in S1 and S2. I can understand her loathing Uther, but being willing to kill Arthur? To hurt Gwen? I still have major problems with that. I kept hoping all summer they'd 'redeem' her by 'de-badding' her this season, but so far, not at all. I don't mind her being evil, and would have loved it, actually, but I want her to be complicatedly evil, not cartoony and a mockery of who she once was. They could've turned her and made me believe it ( ... )

I just posted a reaction post. I can't watch Merlin in the middle of the day. I have to wait until my kids go to bed.

But, I wanted to say that I agree about Morgana. I kind of ignored her in this ep and that worked brilliantly for me.

Also, loved the dragon and was disappointed that Merlin didn't ask for a ride. I love how appreciative he is with the dragon now and always says "thank you". I ♥ the dragon. Also love love love loved the scene where Merlin is running through the woods calling for the dragon.

Oh, and completely with you on the magic reveal. I think they are going to tease us all season. I fear that, actually. Grrr.

I really loved the episode except for the choppiness of it. I wish there had been stronger transitions, especially between scenes with a strong emotional impact.

I have to say I was a little disappointed with 4x02.

As someone said above the whole self-sacrifice theme is on a bit thick and it unnerved me actually. They were basically pushing Lancelot into the "but I want to sacrifice myself, too!" direction, and I'm not quite sure what's that supposed to tell us...

Then there were a few things that didn't make any sense, especially in regard to Morgana, but that's not new, I guess.
