Some sort of crossover with a Connecticut Yankee. I was thinking bringing merlin to modern times and letting him show off with magic in the world of science, but it could go the other way - the scene where he competes with the yankee, but have Merlin win :)

...time became meaningless as the world was trying to come to an end around them. In the pitch black of the howling storm, the icy salt water drenching them and the winds ripping at them, it was just him and Merlin, staring at each other with the wheel between them. Arthur could barely feel the wood under his frozen hands by then, and Merlin looked like the ghost of a drowned boy, but he stayed, right there with Arthur, for what ever reason he couldn't fathom.
Arthur tried to concentrate on that, on Merlin's face before him, the stubborn, determined tilt of his chin quite familiar, but in the end the strain started to become too much. He couldn't feel his limbs anymore, and he had to literally force himself to keep his eyes open and his mind on the task.
Just when Arthur thought he couldn't go on for another second, when he realised that he would have to surrender, Merlin took his hands where they were still clutching tightly around the wheel. He looked at Arthur with an unreadable expression, and suddenly Arthur was flooded with feelings of warmth and strength and confidence.

“I am Merlin, your humble servant as long as you have possession of my little medallion,” The man said bowing at the waist and gesturing towards the medallion, dull once again, “You were the one who rubbed it, were you not?” he continued looking up at Arthur through his fringe.
“Yes, I was,” Arthur said, confidence filling his voice once more. The man wearing simple clothing, just a dark blue vest and loose pants, both secured at his waist by a long red scarf tied off at his right hip glowed with an internal light making his skin an unearthly white. His hair was black as the deepest shadows in the night and his ears just visible under the thick strands were slightly pointed. His wrists, neck and ankles, just visible under the cuff of his pants, were adorned with circles of intricate black symbols tattooed into his flesh standing out in starch contrast to his white skin.
Arthur blinded breaking from the golden gaze and stepped back, “What the hell are you?” he demanded.
“That’s very rude to ask someone,” Merlin said standing straight once more, “I’m your genie, I will grant you any wish your heart desires.”
