The very last scene in the very last episode of Merlin {sniff} was filmed in the road that runs past Huntsham Court Farm in the Wye Valley. It is a great choice for such an iconic scene.
I remember thinking the stag statue was really cool when I drove on the road this summer. Alas, no pictures.
Thanks for the update.
I was wondering where the other lake locations are. I know that some of the scenes are Speech House lake but the flattish grassy area next to the water where Kilgharrah was standing isn't around SH lake, is it? And of course, the large water certainly isn't SH lake but we've talked about that before.
I'm really sad that we won't have any more Merlin locations to talk about/stalk. It was lovely to check them out, though.
It's a great statue! And I think it's really awesome that they chose a location for this scene that we remember simply from having driven there before, for no particular reason. I realise there were practical considerations, too, but it's so cool that they used somewhere that seems to have that extra little frisson of energy to it.
We've caught up elsewhere about the various lake locations.
I feel like I'm not even half done with the Merlin Locations yet! So many still to find and visit... As you say elsewhere, there's also the Arthurian locations to cover. Plenty to look forward to! :-)
I loved his hair and beard, too! The ponytail, with some escaping, as if at the end of a long day. The beanie hat... ♥ Adorable man he is, young or old! :-)
I wonder if people will visit. For me it was already a special place, and is hallowed land now! But I hope poor Richard isn't overwhelmed by fans on pilgrimage. :-D
LOL! I love your dream. I've been having some daft Merlin-related dreams, too, I have to say. For real, though: wouldn't it be cool if they named a son Arthur? It's been far too long since we had a Prince Arthur.
I think you have a 50/50 chance of being right about the baby. :-) They actually started the process of getting those laws changed right after William and Catherine got married - which I really liked, as it meant that they weren't responding to a particular situation, but instead saying, 'This is the right thing to do. Just because.' It will be very interesting to see how that plays out! If it doesn't change the course of history in this generation, surely it's only a matter of time before it does.
I hope that your mourning has become more bearable. Of course it will entirely never go away, will it? It just seems so much a part of the Arthurian legends, that we should always mourn for the apparently inevitable outcome. But I hope it doesn't make you any sadder than you want to be. {hugs} ♥
The idea of flowers tied to the nearest telegraph pole as a shrine to Arthur gives me mixed feelings! I suspect Merlin would quietly remove them.
Anyway, there is a (spoilery) picture of this scene being filmed in which the camera is a on very large cantilevered platform that allows it to be moved freely in all directions. Perhaps that helped ensure the safety of the crew on a busy road?
Thank you, hon! I appreciate your kind and thoughtful comment.
I haven't seen the photo you mention, but that sounds spot on. I am assuming they closed the road, at least for short periods while actually filming, especially with having the truck involved. That would have been tricky, though, especially with it being a busy road - there aren't always straightforward alternative routes around that area! Well, I suppose that is just the reality of filming on location, though... So much to think about and take into consideration! :-)
Wonderful detective work as ever. I couldn't work out why they would choose that particular location but obviously the flat field is the answer. If it carries on raining there will be a real lake there soon!
