Additional Info: I'd love to see a very detached and angry Arthur in the story; he knows he has to take responsibility cause he's a good kid and he can feel Merlin's pain and strength, but he's not ready to commit yet. Obviously things evolve and eventually he decides that the risk is worth everything.

Prompt: Arthur and Merlin met their first year at University. They weren't a match made in Heaven day one, but there was just something about Merlin that drew Arthur in, something completely open and different than what he's used to finding in a friend, and Merlin always seemed to have this uncanny ability of seeing past Arthur's walls, of seeing the real Arthur rather than the facade he put up for everyone else. Their youthful past is a jumble of coursework, part time jobs, and eventually sex (shared while between boyfriends/girlfriends, but nothing more serious than taking care of each other). Yes maybe Arthur thought about what it would be like if they were more than friends, and maybe Merlin thought about it too, but neither wanted to be that rebound relationship, their shared friendship more important than a what-if too ominous to chance it. For them, it's never the right time.
The present... Arthur is very much single. His last relationship having been with Gwen, a woman and friend he adored, but that was pretty much it, he adored her, would do anything for her, yet he couldn't see himself marrying her in the end. They had met four years ago, around the same time Merlin started dating "X" (author's choice on Canon character), who Merlin is still with today, and truth be told, the person Merlin happily settled down with. The day Merlin showed up at Arthur's to announce he and "X" were going to start trying to have a baby, Arthur felt shock, not from Merlin's announcement, but more the tightness in his own chest at realizing this is it, from this point on there would never be a possible future for them that maybe, just maybe he had been waiting for (and denying himself of) all along. In the end, he's 100% supportive of Merlin, because there is no denying Merlin is happy with "X" and will be a great Dad, but life is never that easy.
Months later, "X" dies (author's choice on how), completely devastating Merlin. It takes all their friends to pull Merlin back from the brink, but life never waits for a person to be ready to handle what is dealt their way next. Three months after "X's" death, Merlin once again shows up on Arthur's doorstep looking as lost as the day of "X's" funeral, shaking with unstoppable tears that just break Arthur, and he breaks a little more when Merlin sobs, "I'm pregnant." Merlin is all over the place emotionally. "I can't do this, Arthur, I can't, not now... I barely survived... Not on my own. I can't do this alone!" To which Arthur confidently states, "Merlin, you are not alone. You have me... and (list friends). I - We will help you. Of course we will help you. It's going to be okay, I'll - We'll make sure. It's going to be okay."
Arthur decides to move Merlin into his more than spacious flat (much to Merlin's protestations and reluctant acceptance of the offer), but a week into co-habitation and its like Uni all over again, except 1) Merlin is expecting a baby and 2) Arthur is more than just a little bit in love with his best friend. While before Arthur never made a move because he was too young and too stupid to see what he had, now he holds back because first and foremost he needs to take care of Merlin, who has barely recovered from the loss of his partner, and is now carrying one of the most precious reminders of the person he loved enough to create a life with.
Later in pregnancy, I want to see a medical scare (nothing major), but for a 7/8 month pregnant Merlin to end up in the hospital. I have this scene in my head of a sleeping Merlin in a hospital bed and Arthur sitting vigil next to him (terrified and relieved all at once), and Arthur resting his hand on Merlin's stomach, taking to the baby saying, "I'm not your father, but I'd really like to be."

Prompt: After one year of marriage Merlin gets pregnant and they're on the top of the world. After 3 months of pregnancy Merlin has some trouble with it and the doctors tell him that he needs to stay in bed for the rest of the months left to birth if he doesn't want the miscarriage. Arthur tries to make him as less bored as he can, but with no sex, no outings and Merlin's being irritable the task gets harder everyday.
Merlin begins feeling suspicious when Arthur comes later than usual and he looks sort of relaxed and content: he's been drinking and maybe cheating(?), but neither of them is ready to face the consequence of the argument behind it. When Merlin's due to give birth Arthur realizes that he's been an awful husband and that he's always loved and cherished Merlin, so they try to make it work for both the child and their own happiness.
Additional Info: Arthur's a mess when he bails on Merlin those nights, but the alcohol helps clear his mind from the pain and he's never directly been mean to Merlin, just detached and less intimate.

Prompt: Arthur and Merlin were your typical teenaged sweethearts. They met in Uni, married after graduating, and immediately started a family. They had and have the perfect storybook life. Arthur is running his father's (author's choice) business after the man finally retired. Merlin, after years of being a primary school teacher, has decided to go back to school now that their two children are more than self sufficient (one going off to Uni the following year and the other not too far behind). Arthur and Merlin couldn't be happier with their lives.
Then one day, Merlin starts noticing things, like being overly tired, and nausea, and just simply not feeling right. He tries to hide these things from Arthur, fearing the worst, but Arthur and Merlin know each other too well and Arthur picks up on these small but worrisome changes. When Arthur finally talks Merlin into seeing their physician, they are both surprised to find out that Merlin is pregnant again. They always wanted more kids, but it just didn't seem to be in the cards for them and they had given up hope of more. Now, they are both 45 years old, getting ready to enjoy their older years, only to be starting all over again.

Prompt: An alternate Canon era Arthur/Merlin, where the Prince and his Manservant are more than their stations dictate they are allowed to be, but their relations are as much a secret as Merlin's own magic, and Morgana never turns evil because during one of the many campaigns Arthur is always leading the knights on, he turns up missing and no matter where the knights search, there is no trace of the prince and future king. In much the same way Uther takes a turn by the missing Morgana in the series, a presumed dead Arthur hits the king 10 times worse, eventually leaving ruling Camelot to Morgana as the only remaining heir.
Merlin is more than devastated by the turn of events that has taken his king, his lover, his best friend, from him, not just for what he's lost but that he failed in keeping Arthur safe. No one, not Gwen, not Gaius, not even the most caring Queen Regent Morgana is able to pull a true smile from Merlin, and no one is surprised when one day, Merlin simply disappears.
Fast-Forward five years... It's a beautiful early spring in Camelot, the city thriving under the rule of Queen Morgana who took the throne officially a year prior after King Uther's passing. The people love their Queen, even if they still mourn the loss of there prince, but the rule over the lands of Camelot are fair and just, and even magic is slowly making its way back into everyday life. It's on one of these beautiful and peaceful Spring days that a blond man enters through the walls of the citadel to many wide astonished eyes and more than a few reverently bent knee. Arthur returns, from where, author's choice on what happened to the prince, and of everything he should be concerned about, the one and only question on Arhur's mind is, "Where's Merlin?"
Where is Merlin? No one seems to know... except for maybe one person who lied never let on to where exactly Merlin ran off to and who is perhaps still a little reluctant in divulging the information to all, but Gaius does finally tell Arthur.
Ealdor is where Arthur finds Merlin, living quietly with his mother and an adorable blond haired, blue eyed little boy whose giggles make birds sing, and whose smile lights the sky.

Prompt: Arthur meets Merlin at a time in his life when he's not really actively looking for anyone to have a relationship with, whether it be casual or serious, because taking over running the family business just out of University doesn't leave a young man much time for a personal life. Yet, they do meet, and it's like fate's hand leading him along because no matter how little time he has, a relationship with Merlin is definitely something he wants to make time for.
Merlin meets Arthur at a time in his own life when he's not really actively looking for anyone to have a relationship with either, because being a single Dad, and working a crap job, and taking on-line courses in hopes of quitting said crap job leaves little wiggle room for a personal life, but destiny seems to have a plan set for Merlin even he can't control because no matter what his brain knows he should focus on, his heart pulls him in Arthur's direction.
During the first few weeks/months, Arthur is clueless to the fact Merlin is a single father, Merlin not having much experience in the dating scene and wanting to spare his son any heartache from getting attached to someone who may not be in their lives forever, but eventually after urgings from supportive friends (and his mother) he eventually breaks the news to Arthur that he has a five year old son he's been raising on his own (fearing this is the last he will ever hear from Arthur too). Surprisingly to Merlin, Arthur is not as put off by the news as he expected, Arthur's reaction literally being the complete opposite (once the initial shock wears off), and when Arthur finally meets (author's choice on name), Arthur finds himself falling for Merlin even more than he ever thought possible.
Merlin never talks about his son's mother, and there is no evidence of her existence in his home, something that is always a curious thought at the back of Arthur's head but he tries not to push. The reason Merlin doesn't speak of her is because it's not really a her but a him. When Merlin was eighteen, he was dating a guy who he was obviously more into than the other way around, and when Merlin turned up pregnant after a few nights of very poor judgement, the guy vanished, leaving Merlin to have and raise the child alone. That's not the only secret Merlin hides, because male pregnancy is a rare occurrence and only possible via magic, something that isn't illegal, but definitely looked down upon by many in the world.
Because of his past, and not wanting to see a repeat, Merlin (and Arthur) are the epitome of safe sex, but as it turns out, condoms are not 100% sure-fire protection against pregnancy (or maybe it has to do with his magic), and a year into their relationship, Merlin ends up pregnant by Arthur, something he can't say he's unhappy about but can admit to being terrified of over the possibility of losing Arthur because of his secrets now that he is forced into telling them.

The day Merlin showed up at Arthur's to announce he and "X" were going to start trying to have a baby, Arthur felt shock, not from Merlin's announcement, but more the tightness in his own chest at realizing this is it, from this point on there would never be a possible future for them that maybe, just maybe he had been waiting for (and denying himself of) all along. In the end, he's 100% supportive of Merlin, because there is no denying Merlin is happy with "X" and will be a great Dad, but life is never that easy.
Months later, "X" dies (author's choice on how), completely devastating Merlin. It takes all their friends to pull Merlin back from the brink, but life never waits for a person to be ready to handle what is dealt their way next. Three months after "X's" death, Merlin once again shows up on Arthur's doorstep looking as lost as the day of "X's" funeral, shaking with unstoppable tears that just break Arthur, and he breaks a little more when Merlin sobs, "I'm pregnant." Merlin is all over the place emotionally. "I can't do this, Arthur, I can't, not now... I barely survived... Not on my own. I can't do this alone!" To which Arthur confidently states, "Merlin, you are not alone. You have me... and (list friends). I - We will help you. Of course we will help you. It's going to be okay, I'll - We'll make sure. It's going to be okay."
Arthur decides to move Merlin into his more than spacious flat (much to Merlin's protestations and reluctant acceptance of the offer), but a week into co-habitation and its like Uni all over again, except 1) Merlin is expecting a baby and 2) Arthur is more than just a little bit in love with his best friend. While before Arthur never made a move because he was too young and too stupid to see what he had, now he holds back because first and foremost he needs to take care of Merlin, who has barely recovered from the loss of his partner, and is now carrying one of the most precious reminders of the person he loved enough to create a life with.
Later in pregnancy, I want to see a medical scare (nothing major), but for a 7/8 month pregnant Merlin to end up in the hospital. I have this scene in my head of a sleeping Merlin in a hospital bed and Arthur sitting vigil next to him (terrified and relieved all at once), and Arthur resting his hand on Merlin's stomach, taking to the baby saying, "I'm not your father, but I'd really like to be."

Merlin, after years of being a primary school teacher, has decided to go back to school now that their two children are more than self sufficient (one going off to Uni the following year and the other not too far behind). Fast-Forward five years... It's a beautiful early spring in Camelot, the city thriving under the rule of Queen Morgana who took the throne officially a year prior after King Uther's passing. The people love their Queen, even if they still mourn the loss of there prince, but the rule over the lands of Camelot are fair and just, and even magic is slowly making its way back into everyday life. It's on one of these beautiful and peaceful Spring days that a blond man enters through the walls of the citadel to many wide astonished eyes and more than a few reverently bent knee. Arthur returns, from where, author's choice on what happened to the prince, and of everything he should be concerned about, the one and only question on Arhur's mind is, "Where's Merlin?"
Where is Merlin? No one seems to know... except for maybe one person who lied never let on to where exactly Merlin ran off to and who is perhaps still a little reluctant in divulging the information to all, but Gaius does finally tell Arthur.
Ealdor is where Arthur finds Merlin, living quietly with his mother and an adorable blond haired, blue eyed little boy whose giggles make birds sing, and whose smile lights the sky.

Yet, they do meet, and it's like fate's hand leading him along because no matter how little time he has, a relationship with Merlin is definitely something he wants to make time for.
Merlin meets Arthur at a time in his own life when he's not really actively looking for anyone to have a relationship with either, because being a single Dad, and working a crap job, and taking on-line courses in hopes of quitting said crap job leaves little wiggle room for a personal life, but destiny seems to have a plan set for Merlin even he can't control because no matter what his brain knows he should focus on, his heart pulls him in Arthur's direction.
During the first few weeks/months, Arthur is clueless to the fact Merlin is a single father, Merlin not having much experience in the dating scene and wanting to spare his son any heartache from getting attached to someone who may not be in their lives forever, but eventually after urgings from supportive friends (and his mother) he eventually breaks the news to Arthur that he has a five year old son he's been raising on his own (fearing this is the last he will ever hear from Arthur too). Surprisingly to Merlin, Arthur is not as put off by the news as he expected, Arthur's reaction literally being the complete opposite (once the initial shock wears off), and when Arthur finally meets (author's choice on name), Arthur finds himself falling for Merlin even more than he ever thought possible.
Merlin never talks about his son's mother, and there is no evidence of her existence in his home, something that is always a curious thought at the back of Arthur's head but he tries not to push. The reason Merlin doesn't speak of her is because it's not really a her but a him. When Merlin was eighteen, he was dating a guy who he was obviously more into than the other way around, and when Merlin turned up pregnant after a few nights of very poor judgement, the guy vanished, leaving Merlin to have and raise the child alone. That's not the only secret Merlin hides, because male pregnancy is a rare occurrence and only possible via magic, something that isn't illegal, but definitely looked down upon by many in the world.
Because of his past, and not wanting to see a repeat, Merlin (and Arthur) are the epitome of safe sex, but as it turns out, condoms are not 100% sure-fire protection against pregnancy (or maybe it has to do with his magic), and a year into their relationship, Merlin ends up pregnant by Arthur, something he can't say he's unhappy about but can admit to being terrified of over the possibility of losing Arthur because of his secrets now that he is forced into telling them.
