Every now and then I get on a kick and watch some of those shows. The hands-down most addictive one is "How Clean is Your House?" on BBC America, which should be subtitled, "Many of your countrymen are living in appalling filth." They had one where they took five tons of trash out of a guy's little one-bedroom home. And another one where a woman unplugged her freezer and let it stand full of rotting food in her kitchen for years. This, incidentally, is not regarded as some kind of mental illness by the show's presenters. You gotta wonder, though.

Even though I'm a pretty good housekeeper and quite organized, I always have to get up and go clean something after I watch that show. It's a response like crossing fingers to avoid bad luck after seeing what kind of nastiness some people are living in.
