Wow, even though I have fallen behind on homework and suchlike and will thus stay tired and overly busy for the next few days, I am quite relaxed and happy. And cold, actually, but for once it isn't making me horribly irritable. I wonder if one ever grows out of wanting to make their parents proud ( Read more... )

I don't think so, 'cause I still try to do well in school so I can shove it in my mom's face (in a, "lookit, be proud of me already!" sort of way).

I guess the real question is, is it refreshing or terrifying to realize that parental opinions will always matter?

There are cases where the opinion doesn't matter, though they do seem to be rare. If you ask I'll give you one in a less public context and you can argue that I'm wrong if you wish.

In any case, whether it's terrifying or refreshing depends entirely on who the parents are, and whether or not they actually deserve the level of respect necessary to make their opinions matter to the offspring.

Bleah, don't make your parents proud!! Make yourself proud! Your parents are defective and can't help but be proud of you (all of youall). It's a defective thing a bout parents, we're a proud bunch we are.
