did you know that soil erosion is destroying salmon and steelhead spawning habitats? the sediment builds up and covers the fish eggs, and makes the creeks shallow amd impassible.
roads are a huge factor in this. they collect large amounts of rainwater which would normally soak into the ground, then funnel it into a drain. the concentrated volume of water comes out of the drain at high speed, scouring away topsoil and carrying it to creeks where it accumulates. it's one of those things you don't really notice, but once it's pointed out, you'll see it EVERYWHERE.

fortunately, there are methods to fix the erosion problem... unfortunately, there are thousands of miles of roads where this needs to be addresed.
