I think it helps to realize the we are, from an evolutionary perspective, somewhat hard-wired to associate sex with love, or at least, intimacy. Understanding your own internal motivations in matters like these can help you make choices that both satisfy your needs and desires, but don't just fuck things up, too. Having said that, sometimes things just get fucked up anyway.
i still fall madly and inconsolably in love with the wrong person every five or ten years and then obsess about it to no end.
when i was younger, your age, i used to have the kind of experiences you described. intimacy engendered closer emotions than it should have. then i felt let down by the person i had fallen for, sometimes only from brief physical intimacy.
pheromones may rule our brains, and our brains, our hearts. as artists we may also be more vulnerable, visually stimulated by certain types, beyond all reason.
and perhaps inclined to be mesmerized by talent, or brilliance.
casual sex is fine, but perhaps many of us, particularly women, can't keep it in it's proper category. it defies reason.
do you have a pet? if not, perhaps (if you acquire one) it would help you to not get too attached to fundamentally incompatable human companions!
