I recently discovered the blog http://fedupwithschoollunch.blogspot.com/ about a teacher eating the same school lunch that is served to her students. I have to say, it looks pretty similar to what I remember from my few years in public school. Private school food was

I always brought lunch. In Elementary and Middle School, Grandma would pack Phil and I lunch. In high school, I mostly skipped lunch.

The private school I attended till 3rd grade didn't really do hot lunch. They occasionally tried to contract it out to a fast food joint or a stay at home mom but I was less than impressed.

Once we started public school we ate hot lunch everyday. My mom was sick of making lunches. It was my first exposure to tomato soup and canned green beans and I still love both. I think my favorite lunch was Cheese Zombies and Tomato soup. The best way to describe Cheese Zombies was really soft slightly sweet bread dough with melted cheese inside. Kinda like a hot pocket, kinda like a grilled cheese.

The other thing I liked was the cherry crisp.
