The beginning reminded me of Der Erlkoenig by Goethe--specifically the wind howling like voices.
I love the point of view in this--that all we have is the one, desperate woman.
Great play by the faerie child and appropriate that the mother only found more trouble in trying to trick the fae.

I enjoy how the stream-of-consciousness viewpoint adds a bit of surreality to the story, and how the reader only learns very gradually what happened.
