In my life, before there was writing, before there was Takarazuka, before there was cosplay, before there was Sailor Moon… there was Michael Jackson. I became a Michael Jackson fan in the late 90’s, long after it was considered “cool” to be into him and his music. Yours is one of the most articulate and heartfelt posts that I've read on the subject.

I mirror pretty much everything you say here about wanting better for him in the next life. No one deserves even a third of the things that he went through. He got so much crap for just wanting to recapture a childhood that was taken from him and being eccentric. I myself don't ever plan on growing up and am a little weird, so I could empathize with him to a certain degree. Because of that, I always felt sad when the media would pervert things that didn't need to be perverted just to get a story.

Either way, I am very much of the same mind as you on the subject. Though I was never a full-fledged fan, I was always captivated every time I heard any of his music. I remember being at Best Buy with Amie and Joel and seeing one of his concerts on one of the big screens. It was so hard to turn away. He was such an amazing talent and the world will be severely lacking with the loss of such a great showman.

You're in my thoughts, honey ♥

Dear lady. I've been peeking at the various news stories and blog entries and Tweets about this all day. This is by far the most personal, moving, and eloquent reflection on Michael that I've read since I heard the news.

Thank you for sharing.

I love your post. I wish more people would have such an honest opinion of MJ. I was never a huge fan, but I loved his music. He had a lot of hard times, but it will be his music that lives on.
