Okay, that wasn't your fault. They screwed up; moreover, the girl on the counter said there seemed to be some kind of fault with your account. Now she said "seemed", but it does imply that it is their fault. Write to them or complain to someone in-branch, be pleasant, tell them the problems it's caused you and ask them if there's anything they can do. Take names. If they get difficult, tell them you'll contact them in writing. Write to them, and if they're difficult again, threaten to go to the Financial Ombudsman Service. The FOS will chase up bastardy banks and make them give you compensation if they're in the wrong.
