you don’t know how many things you have to do until you don’t have the time to do it

Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! I swear that I have wanted to update so many times this week but my life has gotten so crazy since I got a job (yes, me!) that everything is all jumbled up. My Physics work has caught up with me and i am behind in all my assignments and studying. Also, it's just that the more days you skip updating the longer you can go without ( Read more... )

Congrats on the job! I can relate to you about crappy customers and standing on your feet all day long...I work at JCPenney, and that's the lovely stuff I put up with. That is awesome that you'll be getting pharmacy experience while you're just starting your second year. I didn't realize how much goes on behind the scenes in a pharmacy...wow, sounds like it can get stressful!

thanks =) Yeah, so much crap goes on! And you'd be surprised how many times the finger goes up behind the counter at customers ;-> just be nice to the pharmacist next time you need an RX. Not like we're waiters, we don't do anything to the pills because that is unethical and illegal. But just make our lives a bit easier because with all the crap we put up with we could use a nice customer. =)

Hey there, I work in a pharmacy as well and came across your page through the tech page, so I can totally understand where you're coming from with all that stress. In fact, I've been working in the pharmacy for a little under a year, and where I work (Target) we don't have people who are strictly cashiers or pharmacy clerks because we're not super busy. Therefore, I started as a full-blown tech, having to do all the normal tech responsibilities. I've grown quite comfortable with it now and enjoy it (usually). I was definitely overwhelmed at first though, but you'll soon get the hang out it. Personally, the hardest part for me was trying to learn how to type in people's insurance information since there are so many different plans, but I'm fine with that too now. You'll pick up on things quickly and be a pro in no time! Make sure you take the tech certification test when you feel comfortable, and you'll have yet another accomplishment under your best.

tech certification test? We don't have that in PA, or at least nothing I've heard about. As if worrying about the test to become a pharmacist wasn't enough! I really had my heart set on working at a Target pharmacy after my friend (who works in one) told me about it. How the people are generally nicer than the ones in CVS and they do less prescriptions because virtually nobody knows that Target actually has a pharmacy. Also, the people who I work with are from the worse pharmacy school (it's not a bad school, just not the best pharmacy program) from my area and I am from the better one (since you're anonymous I don't know where you're from). My friend's boss at target wont even hire anybody from that other school because he says they don't know anything.

Sorry for such a long reply, and thanks =) It's always nice to hear from random people who actually read my boring stuff.lol

Hey, it's me again. I don't have a livejournal, so that's why I have to post as anonymous. I'm from Florida though. However, the tech certification test is a national test for everyone. I'm sure someone in the pharmacy knows about it. Their website is www.ptcb.org and it's offered 3 times a year and is really easy actually. Nothing at all compared to the PCAT! It's basically just simple math calculations and ratios. Generally, you're given a raise once you pass the test, although I don't know how it is at CVS since that's not a common store down here, if we even have them at all. Your experience in the pharmacy will be a great asset to you once you start trying to apply to pharmacy schools (I'm guessing you're just doing the undergrad pre-reqs now, right?) I, too, plan on going to pharmacy school in the fall of 2004, although I've already got a degree and am taking a year off of school to gain experience and save up some money. Hope that helps clear things up!

do you want an LJ? Because I can try to find a code for you, LJ is much more fun when you can join all sorts of closed-membership communities =) Wow, things in FL are so different than in PA! I am already in pharmacy school. It's a 6 year program, with the usual 2 undergrad years then 4 professional years. The only difference is that with my school I don't have to apply seperately for the pharmacy program. Once I declared my major (which was basically on my application since I knew I was going into pharmacy) I was in the pharmacy program ( ... )
