For those wondering what it's like in New York after Hurricane Sandy's arrival, we got a helluva lot of storm surge. Lots of flooding, including the FDR Drive as far north as 34th Street, Battery Park and lots of NJ and Long Island. Power was out below 39th Street, and transformers were exploding. I tried to email you this morning after watching the news, but couldn't get internet access at my current digs for some reason. Glad to hear you've (presumably, if lights were just flickering) got power.

Yes, we have power and are fine, but those pictures from lower Manhattan and the boroughs are certainly bad. Thanks for checking up on me!

I am so glad to hear you are safe and sound. I was thinking about you when I saw the news this evening and hoping you were ok. They showed pictures of most of the things you mentioned...scary stuff!

Yes, scary, and not in a good Halloween way. This storm is a monster and not the kind in the movies. We are fine, though, and didn't lose power or experience flooding. Thanks for checking in!

Yeah, wild is the word. We're still not able to travel below 34th Street on the subway, and most people downtown are still without power, as is 90 percent of Long Island. Poor New Jersey and the shores of Long Island are just a mess. My neighborhood is thankfully pretty normal, though. Good to hear from you!
