Meredith had at least managed to make it back home to turn herself into a presentable human being at some point between her own classes and the ones she was responsible for running. Still, she felt a bit off, a bit jumpy and snappy. Maybe she needed to start actually taking part in that little thing called sleep ( Read more... )

"Hello," he repeated back to her, making his way toward the pot of coffee on the counter. He hadn't had much of an appetite in the past couple days, but coffee was always welcome in his eyes.

Audrik leaned against the counter for a moment, holding his mug with two hands, warming them with it. He looked down at the young woman and immediately knew she was a TA. He wasn't very good at making conversation, however, and simply sipped his coffee.

Trying to go back to her grading wasn't exactly going to happen. People normally came, did their thing, maybe prattled about something inane (but not always) and left. Meredith was fine with that.

What she wasn't fine with was silence. If she was alone, it was fine. If there was someone around, she had to have some type of interaction going on or she felt a bit too scrutinized.

She was mostly just staring at the words now so she set her pen down, grabbed her mug and went to top it off. Maybe she wasn't sure exactly what he taught (except that it wasn't anything she'd ever wandered her way into), she knew this was a professor and that called for some decorum. "Having a good day? Not being bombarded with the masses begging for personal tutoring and deadline extentions?"

"I should only hope my students would care that much about their work," he said rather flatly, considering it was a joke.

Audrik, instead of continuing conversation like a normal human, simply left it at that and continued leaning, and took another sip from his coffee. Deciding it needed sugar, he turned around to grab a couple of cubes and dropped them in.

Was this guy for real? Meredith watched him turn to deal with sugar and it looked more like busy work to her. Over the years, she'd encountered enough professors to know some just did not like to socialize with students and thought they were above the people they taught. He didn't seem to be like that, though. This seemed...different.

Sipping her coffee she waited to see if he'd be unnerved by her continued presence. "Well, this is vastly stimulating." She tilted her cup as if meaning the coffee, wondering if he would understand that she actually meant this lovely not-conversation. Not even pleasantries? Really, now.
