I just had the most wonderfully strange little dream. I'm pretty sure it was based somehow or the other, in some very strange way, on the Sweeney Todd book I'm reading. No blood or shaving razors though. Just lots of beautiful colors, a windmill, a hot air balloon/blimp thing, a gorgeous boy, and a love story. So charming and strange.

10.-11.Jan.08

In a dream I’m a teenage girl who lives alone with my father in a windmill by the sea. Our town is a port town, and our windmill house is attached to the rock walls that dip into the ocean. There is a ladder leading down into the ocean, and another ladder leading up onto the docks. Everything is brightly colored: the ocean is bright turquoise and my windmill is bright red. I fall in love with a boy and decide to run away with him. He takes me up onto the rooftops of the town. There he has hidden his flying ship, which is rather a lot like a bright silver blimp with a wooden compartment for people. Inside there is celebration because the boy and I are to be married. However, the party is broken up when the police come to arrest everybody. All the guests escape, but the boy and I remain in the flying ship and try to fly off. However, one of the policemen climbs on top and punctures the balloon part. Our ship is now crippled, and it floats off the building and heads out to sea.

As we fall slowly to earth, I ask the boy why the police came and he tells me of his past. He is a pirate who has stolen much, and maybe, though I am never sure, has killed men on the sea. I am devastated to find out the man I love is a criminal. When the flying ship has landed, we climb out to see where we are. We find that we have landed right at the end of a very very long pier. We swim to the pier, and the boy starts running toward land. I, however, run the other way because I know there is a sort of seadoo/ocean motorcycle thing parked at the end. Before the boy can turn around, I am on the motorcycle and heading home.

I reach my home and am distraught. I have abandoned my father and my lover all in the same day, and I’m an emotional wreck. (This part is the strangest…) When I get to the ladder underneath the house, I flip myself over and go up the ladder upside down all the while reciting a prayer. The water at my face is black, and everything is dark. I’m half afraid to lift myself up the ladder any higher for fear of what might be in the water. But as I climb the ladder, still upside down, I see that there is nothing in the black water. When I reach the top of the ladder, I flip over and my wet hair gets in my face. I see my father coming toward me, and I break down into tears. I tell him how sorry I am that I left him, and I tell him of the boy. I take him to the street just above our house, and point out the long long pier (which you can see clearly from my house.) I see the boy fighting off policemen, and I see him fail. They start to drag him towards the end of the pier, which I now remember is the police station.

I’m suddenly terrified for the boy, and realize I have made a grave mistake. I know the boy will get no fair trial and will probably die. Because of me. I beg my father to help me, and he agrees. We run down the road until we get to the police station. The main judge comes out when we arrive, and I plead for the boy. The judge looks up to my father and asks, “Do you know the boy?” and my father replies, “Of course.” The judge looks at us for a moment, and then opens the doors. They throw the poor wet boy on the steps before me. He falls to his knees, and I fall to mine and hug him, kissing him.

We build a house on the port wall in the shape of a red hot air balloon, not far from my father’s house. And there we live.
