I don't know what this means but I'm sorry things are crappy.

I lieu of actual advice, I give you a google image result for brick:

upgraded to OpenWRT. things were coming along ok. I was playing with settings to use it as a client bridge. unfortunately the way they do the settings as of Kamikaze is not the same as it was in White Russian. [config files vs. nvram]

upon reboot my IP is the same as my gateway [169.254.56.50]. now I can't talk to the router to fix whatever went wrong.

my understanding is that the way to fix this is to salder on a JTAG connector and go to town. which is where we get distinctly outside my area of practical experience. also, today, playing with it any more will result in way too much alcohol consumption and swearing. so i think i'm taking a break for the day unless i have assistance.

coming out to steal your router tomorrow night just may appen. technically i have plans, but i'm likely to bail on them if there's a reasonable chance that i can get this sorted, in whole or in part, by doing so.

Gateway doesn't matter if you're considered "local", e.g. same subnet.

I dunno how to help, but my WRT54G2 just seemed to give up last night. 20MBs down when plugged into the modem directly. Either no internet or 0.02MBs down through the router (wired or wireless doesn't matter).

I really don't want to have to replace this... I feel like I get a new router every year.
