Summer with my Grandson

My grandson and I have been spending time at the Rock Run Greenway in Joliet this summer.  Weston loves nature walks, and is very observant when we are there; he points out the sights to me.  Yesterday we saw an otter swimming, two turtles sunning on a rock, a woodpecker drumming for grubs on a dead tree trunk, numerous schools of tiny bluegill, ( Read more... )

That first picture is so, so happy looking.
And, I love the Queen Ann's Lace. One of my favorites as a child -- we had it growing in all the fields around us.

My goodness, you saw so much in one day! Wonderful!

The flowers in the last photo are so cute. What is their name, do you know?

They are Rudbeckia hirta, or black-eyed susan. They are cheerful looking, aren't they? They are a prairie species.
