That being said, your argument has more power if you make it clear that there ARE other rock stations in Philly, just no modern, or "alternative" rock. There is still WYSP, WMMR and WMGK. You might not personally like what kind of rock they play, but every single station in Philadelphia is not hip hop.
Q102 (WIOQ) is a CHR, or Top 40 station, so they play a mix, as well. So you're really looking at Power 99, Wired, and the new 100 as three urban contemporaries... and there are three rock stations. It's more realistic to ask your local stations to play more of the kind of rock you want to hear than expect Radio One to flip formats *back*. As much as the petition makes a point, I think more would be accomplished if playlist requests with that many signatures went out to WYSP and WMMR.
I wish I would have felt better at the time, to write more. But that's what I said, there are no more " alternative rock " stations in Philly. And it is not just a matter of wanting their music back. it's everything they do/did. The Sonic Sessions and the concerts and the morning show and just their whole station in general. No other station can replace them. Q102 plays mostly urban, and also 96.5 is another new Power99.(Unless that's "wired") Radio One had NO reason to pull Y100.
96.5 IS Wired, and I apologize if I read you wrong. I wish you knew how MANY MANY times I have read there are "no rock stations in Philly" since the flip. It's disrespectful to more than one HERITAGE aor, like WZZO and WYSP.
I bet Radio One had hundreds of thousands of reasons to flip Y100. Yup, yup.
That being said, I can't wait to see who will pick up the slack when it comes to new music and features like the ones you listed, FEZtival, all the kickass Y100 stuff. No other station can replace them... sure. True. But there's about a .000005% chance that they'll flip back.
I still believe the site is pointless.
Q102 plays Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Simple Plan, Lindsay Lohan, JLo, Ryan Crabrera, Linkin Park, Mariah, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen, Gavin DeGraw, Green Day and Jesse McCartney in heavy rotation. I don't think I would qualify that as "mostly" urban.
every time I tune in, I hear mostly urban stuff. :-/ Yeah, I definitely know there are other rock stations- I would never dis ZZO! I have like, 12 presets on my radio in my car and they pretty much cover everything. It's just... my drive to work is more lonesome and less fulfilling without Preston and Steve:( They're moving to 93.3 I think it is....in like, May.. but.. it's still not Y100. It's just like a huge chunk of history, gone. And it really sucks that they worked so hard and did a great job (the whole station, not just Preston and Steve) and were just, yanked. Just like that. :( I cannot imagine a justifiable reason to flip formats on 100.3.
