I read and wrote all of these reactions over the course of two days. Yesterday and today.
The trinity splitting up. Everything hurts. It was a really good scene even though it was painful. I just, I really hope that if the writers are gonna break it they'll patch it up together again once it's all said and done.
OMACs everywhere. They are really freaky, and real people, real innocent people are in those things.
Oh dear, the others from the other universes are showing up. That can't possibly be a good thing.
Continuation and conclusion of the storyline from before the infinite crisis issue. More fighting. But for some reason I am perfectly okay with Arrow and Batman fighting each other. Sometimes they both need a real good punch to the face.
There's still a lot I don't agree with Ollie about. His persistant defense of their mind wiping action being the main one. But he also makes some good points about Batman.
And then almost kills him, and after he almost kills him he shouts to Batman about how he's going to realize that he needs the league, and gonna need Ollie, and really. That just sounds a bit desperate and needy for Ollie because clearly that's his wishful thinking. Which is odd... IDK they would have the greatest hatesex ever and I feel really bad for thinking that... They both have so many issues...
Aaaand that was actually the last of the JLA issues. No more. League is dead and over with. Very sad about this. I want a team! I'm going to have to end up reading older Teen Titans stuff for the found family team trope aren't I?
Pretty sure the list skipped an issue or two there... And I was too lazy to add them even though I downloaded the whole thing. I'll read them some other time.
This felt like it was mainly set up for later things. It had a plot though, but the set up stuff were of more importance I believe.
It did have that junior marvel boy... I am so confused by the marvel family.
Also it had Slade (how the hell do I continually forget his codename... Deathstroke for crying out loud it's not like it's difficult) running an errand. I'm not very familiar with Deathtroke but it would seem that he runs a lot of errands for Luthor, which doesn't quite seem like something he would be doing happily. At least he didn't take off his mask. It's always so confusing when he takes it off and he doesn't look like Manu Bennet... I don't think having watched two seasons of Arrow has influenced me much at all.
This issue was really very good. It was great. Seriously. I know I complain about excessive angst and hero against hero fighting, but technically Jason isn't so much a hero as a... Somewhat murderous unpredictable element...
He beat up Tim. He's an asshole, my poor Timmy boy. Jason needs to be punched and kicked a lot and then perhaps jail.
But I still liked it. I can't really put my finger on why.
Edit: Okay, re-reading that I realize I was sort of unfair. Like seriously unfair. Especially since I have been falling for Jason quite hard despite him being well, a murderer. I just get overprotective of my favorites and I love and adore Tim Drake.
I liked that Jason got to say all the things he had to say. Do I think he should be having this conversation as an actual conversation without violence? Yes. Should he be railing and shouting and Bruce instead? Yes.
It was still a really, really good issue, and I am fascinated by this Jason Todd plotline and want to read more of it right now. I also need him and Dick to meet up. They haven't done that right? Not when they know that it's Jason I mean. I can't remember I've read so many comics now.
Don't have much to say about Wonder Woman #222, Superman #223 and Firestorm #19.
Donna is making the rounds, gathering people for her cause.
I really like Beast Boy.
Anyway these two were interesting, weird interlude thing-y about an in universe comic book that seemed irrelevant only for it to be very relevant.
Superboy's continued reluctance to act. Poor Conner, it doesn't matter that Luthor didn't create you to save people you saved people before, that is what you created. The image that you created of yourself is stronger and more important than the reason Luthor created you for. Now go out there and prove that you're better than your genes. You are Superboy!
Also these are written by Geoff Johns and this one had a lot of talk about death and resurrection and how heroes continued to come back alive. These are themes he is going to revisit later I realized.
Wow, finally I got to read the next issue, it has only been... uh... More than two months? Damn. Okay, so eh... I don't know, it wasn't as amazing as I'd hoped it would be to read about Wally again. Things just didn't seem right. But it was just one issue. There's three more.
And next one has Nightwing and the most amazing cover ever, but it's a while before I get around to it. Because these weren't on the list so I had to squeeze the rest of them into it at a later point around issue 4 of Infinite Crisis.
As always I have this "aggressively does not care for Hal Jordan"-thing going on. I should just admit that I frankly don't like him, but I can't give a reason for not liking him, so I just have to say that I don't care about him.
With that said, I enjoy seeing Hal and Ollie together. Frankly I just like friendships... And considering that during the last crisis (which everyone seem to forget about, but the dc wiki counts zero hour as a crisis so eh I'm counting it?) Ollie shot Hal in the chest.
Anyway, this tied up what happened in Infinite Crisis 1, a lot of the other things made more sense this time around because I'm reading everything in this event, plus I'm more familiar with the DC universe in general.
Ollie and Hal together work really good, as always I have a thing for team work and these two have to be the best at it, despite not having actually worked together for years what with both of them being dead for a large chunk of all this time...
Also found it amusing how Ollie was crouching on a freaking gargoyle in the last panel. For crying out loud Ollie, that's Batman's thing. X)
#86 was a lot of fun. First a party for Babs which was lovely, and people smiling and being happy.
Then the next story was really good as well, with humor and Canary being the bestest character ever. I love Dinah.
And then Huntress in the last story agreeing to return to the team, :D
Continuing with the next issue and I love this team so much. I love how upbeat it is. So much humor and yet serious at the same time. It's so goood! I love Gail's writing.
Haha. Babs wearing a Green Lantern tank top. Please tell me Bruce knows you have one of those. X)
Green Arrow showing up again. He is everywhere!
Oh fucking hell Ollie don't make me like you.
Well, if Dinah doesn't hate him then I can't really dislike him either... I'm always unfair to him anyway since most of my knowledge of him doesn't really come from reading much of him and more from hearing stuff.
I'm actually taking notes while reading this time... Though not really notes as you can see it's mostly just reactions.
Right... so a lot of the Batman stuff I already had downloaded doesn't work, sometimes they work better on my tablet than the computer, but yesterday they just completely crashed everything. And I was already having a second bad day so I had a minor meltdown and tore a bed sheet to shreds to calm down... Anyway.
Fortunately the stuff I downloaded for infinite crisis had included these issues and I can read them now. Which is good because the tablet stopped working for me in the middle of Babs telling her dad about EVERYTHING! Omg this is amazing.
And I love how well he takes it. Damn that's just amazing.
And then Batman just has to show up to intrude. Go away Bats. We don't have time for you.
Haha, oh my god. You go Dinah. XD Seriously she is my favorite forever and ever. And just deciding that fuck it I'm gonna kiss Batman just because. She is awesome. X)
That was awesome and I particularly enjoyed the smug Calculator guy being beaten. Fuck him.
I love Birds of Prey.
I discovered that there was like 10 issues of Robin after War Games and before the next one on my tablet so I decided to read them.
The art in most of them was fucking awful. Like "can't actually tell what the hell is going on there's just random lines and dark blurry colors"-bad.
Not sure I liked the writing either. It had a lot of relationship oriented moments that really worked (Tim and Cass were very sinbling-y, a few Tim and Bruce that seemed true to them but some just not working, Tim and Alfred - they've always had an interesting connection and gotten along I'm glad that's still there), but some other things that I didn't think worked at all. Also Darla being brought back to life just to become a villain. Sure we needed that. Except nope.
The only good thing about that subplot was that it takes place before the Teen Titans mess and so we got Conner showing up! And him and Tim being BFFs and it was amazing. When I'm not busty shipping them like it's going out of style (pretty sure it is out of style since I have no idea what their dynamic is like in new 52 and all that I've heard is basically that the writers have butchered Tim's characterization), I just really really enjoy reading about them being friends.
Anyway, loved seeing Conner in the Robin outfit. Loved Conner pretending to be Robin. It was awesome.
I found the whole "uncle" sub-plot somewhat weird and badly motivated. I like Tim being smart and almost fooling Batman, but it just... It's in character for Tim to lie, but I don't quite believe he would do all of that. Oh well, I had heard about the sub-plot so I was curious about it, not sure what I expected from it though.
Cassandra and Tim were amazing together (I'm doing this in completely wrong order because that was the first four issues... Two of which were Batgirl and man the art in those were so much better). I wanted more of them kicking ass and then patching each other up after.
The whole plot with the army thing I am not happy with and I hope it ends soon.
I really need to download more Aquaman, the occasional times I've gotten to read something with him during this whole excercise in time wasting, I've really enjoyed it. Now he's both on the list of characters I will read before and after the reboot.
Okay, I don't really have anything to say about that Superman issue. It had Superman battling Black Rock again, it feels like he's done that a lot, possibly it feels like more times than it actually is. Nothing really groundbreakingly interesting happened. There was far too much Lex (I loved Lex in Smallville but I can't stand him in comics)
The Wonder Woman issue was a lot more interesting. With Themyscira attacked by OMACs and Diana in court promising to stay because she knows it's the right thing, but then finding out what is happening on Themyscira she has to leave to help them, because that is even more important.
Powergirl's story is becoming so much more interesting. Basically taking her away from that track of having her just be obsessed with the need to be Superman's cousin, it's so much more interesting to have the whole Eartyh-2 thing brought up, and just the whole talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths and that is why she doesn't belong. It's interesting.
This is day three of me having a really bad day mentally. I am reading comics to cope. It's a terrible strategy in the long run I know, but it's distracting and calming.
Anyway. Next up is Infinite Crisis 2 so I figure I'll just post this now to keep these relatively short.
