Is there still interest in me posting medieval poetry? I know I've slacked with them, but I'll get back on track if you want me to ;)

On the POV, I'm not a big fan of FP, but can be suckered into reading it :)

And on the poetry? Yes, please!

There shall be more poetry :)

I'm thinking of trying out FP as I think I need the added intimacy that gives me, so that's why the poll. I should have guessed that most people prefer TP though, it is after all the most common POV.

I can't not say this; I am definitely and absolutely annoyed by third person omniscient :( When reading a story, I don't want to know everybody's thoughts. It's enough if there's one person whose inner mind is revealed, but I prefer that all other characters are as much mystery to me as they are to that person. We can't read everyone's thoughts and know all about their history in RL either, can we? :P

Actually this is one of the things that bug me the most when reading fics (it's not as big an issue in books, I think - but then I haven't read "real" books in ages :P). I can enjoy a story even if it's narrated in third person omniscient, but then the writing must be absolutely stellar.

Sorry about the rant. :P *hug*

Well, there is a reason that third person limited is the usual way fiction is written ;) I prefer it when writing, feels the most natural to me, though I don't really have preferences either way when reading, unless the third person omniscient reads too jumpy (some authors do handle it better than others after all).

No worries, rants like this are always welcome here :P *hugs back*

I love past tense because it is more natural to me. I mean, there's hardly anyone running a commentary on life, especially when it's action-packed, is there? It comes more easily when you have some time, sit down and ponder your life...

On POVs, it doesn't matter - of course, the author has to be good with switching POVs but let's say that's a given - but again, omniscience just isn't natural.

That said, there might be / come one or two fics when the writing is so brilliant... you know :D

And yes to more medieval poetry :)

I've written several fics in present tense now, and strangely enough, it doesn't feel off at all. I totally get what you mean though, and you're right. No one sits back and ponders life right when they're at it, but I guess, present tense feels more like a movie to me. Happening right there at the screen (or on paper), and it's less a later retelling of the story. I couldn't even say when I think present tense to make more sense than past tense, but I do know that sometimes for me, present tense gives me a feeling of urgency I can't get when writing in past tense.

Totally agree with you on the POV, though. I don't think I could ever write a good third person omniscience (when I'm writing on my own), as it just doesn't feel natural to me. And of course, a good author can make anything work ;)
