LJ Idol - Week 28 - Going Forward

They lay together at the edge of the wood, her arm thrown across his chest, skin slick with sweat. Their mouths were bruised from the force of desperate kisses, limbs shaky with release, but now they were still, staring in uneasy silence up through the sun-dappled leaves of the tree.

Minutes before, she had knelt astride him, back straight and proud ( Read more... )

I was discussing sexism with your typical online troll on a message board of negative thinkers, and I brought up the Adam and Eve story as a clear indicator of how that had a subtext of hatred of women/how women could not be trusted as a basis for that sort of thinking. It actually made the guy think for a second, then he stopped responding after one volley. Hopefully your tale here will have a similar effect!

When I saw the prompt I had to decide, "Going Forward From WHAT?" And 'In the beginning, God created the heaven and the Earth" immediately sprang to mind. You can't go much farther back than that!

I've often thought about what being ejected from the Garden of Eden might be like, to have perfection and then know, due to some mistake, you - and all humanity - would suffer forever more. I've also heard theories that the "fruit" in Genesis didn't really mean an apple, but instead erotic, sexual awareness, so I wanted to explore that aspect too.

That's really fascinating... I think we all know that it wasn't an apple, whatever that fruit was supposed to be, but I never heard the concept of it being erotic sexual awareness! That's worthy of further exploration!

But also, if we want to examine the concept of Adam and Eve, if God created all of these things, he would know that 1. Humans are curious creatures. 2. Telling them they can't have something without a reason piques the curiosity. 3. Talking snakes speak with forked tongues. So really, the whole thing was set up, like a bunch of dominoes ready for the pushing. However many days or weeks or years it would have taken, at some point there would have been some sort of boring day where either/or would have pruned that tree and the knowledge would have been swallowed!

I think it was George Carlin who joked about how God insured the human race would carry on.

That, when he was molding Adam, and explaining how reproduction worked, one of the archangels was like "And how are you gonna get them to do THAT?"

And God picked up a bowl and said, "See these things here? They are called NERVE ENDINGS. Add a few thousand more of them around these parts and we'll have nothing to worry about!"

I like that you used a well known story to make this point!

This was infuriating, but only because it was supposed to be. Being a man, I feel comfortable saying that men aren't necessarily the worst, but seriously, men are the worst.

I love men. I'm definitely not one of those man hating females that thinks everything bad is a guy's fault. I think y'all have it really tough in a lot of ways - particularly emotionally, because you are people with feelings but society tell you to man up and get over it and that is terrible. But blaming women for sexual indiscretion is an age old game that men play. It's happened to me, I went on a date with a rather religious man who threw himself on me at the end of the night, grabbing breasts, sloppy kisses (I was surprised but it wasn't unwelcomed) afterward when I never heard from him again, I heard from a mutual friend that he said he "felt the fire" when he was around me and didn't think he should date me because of it.
