A year ago, I never would have expected I'd spend my limited free time scanning cloth diaper groups on Facebook. Cloth diapering has introduced me to a whole new world. I belong to these groups on Facebook that are co-ops for cloth diapers and so many other things, as well as serving as a supportive network of moms. It's perfect for a cheapskate ( Read more... )

We love cloth diapering... for so many reasons!- it's good for the environment, it saves us a lot of money, and it means our daughter isn't having constant contact with all of those disgusting chemicals!

I haven't made any for myself and I can't imagine doing so lol! It feels like it would be a lot of work. I got so many second hand and cheap that I can't imagine buying the materials and making them myself would save us any money haha. An old co-worker also just gave me a bunch of her son's cloth diapers for FREE so we saved even more money.

I love it, I really do! :) So I can imagine you getting hooked. Most of what we use are prefolds and covers... although I see so many pocket diapers and all in ones, we simply can't afford them and just went for the cheapest option :)

I don't make the actual cloth diapers, just the easy fleece soakers. It's so much cheaper than buying them from WAHMs for $10 or so. I bought a fleece blanket on clearance at Walmart for $3 and can make at least 3 large soakers I think. I am afraid of prefolds even though I know I can pad fold them in a cover. I also don't like the bulk. I got my pockets and fitteds through the co-ops so they are cheap. Definitely didn't stick to the 16-20 that you'd need. I also make my own homemade laundry detergent for them. Super cheap and easy- do you do that? I haven't had any stink issues since starting (I was using Rockin' Green and not only was it expensive, it didn't work!)

We use a little bit of rockin' green (like a tablespoon per load) and use soap nuts that are hypoallergenic. I got them through a bulk order with a bunch of other moms in the area and it ends up costing us 9 cents per load of laundry! The soap nuts really do strip the diapers. We haven't had any issues the entire time we've used them :) I'm so happy the weather is getting nicer here. We can finally hang the prefolds out on the clothesline!
