The Doctor's been restless practically ever since Donna left, but it's their first full day apart now, and he's become markedly worse. Sylvia shooed him out into the yard earlier in the morning, when he decided to start tinkering with the kitchen appliances (microwaves are so slow sometimes!), and now he's plucking leaves of grass and splitting ( Read more... )

"What's wrong with you?" she snaps at herself. She's driving away from her mates, a gorgeous spa, and a whole weekend's worth of shopping - not to mention the bloke she met the night before who'd seemed very interested in seeing her again. And for what? That weird tension in the back of her brain that no amount of Swedish massage therapy could cure? The feeling she'd left half her heart behind after work on Friday? Or was it that damned night she'd spent curled up to the Doctor like a desperate slut?

"Learn to drive!" she shouts to her interior as she cuts in front of slow-moving lorry. She's been driving like a maniac, and on some level she knows that, but it's only because she's mad at herself, isn't it? It's not like she's hurrying home. She's mulling that very though over as she pulls into the driveway. At last.

He nearly leaps up when he hears the car pull into the driveway, but he manages to restrain himself - even having Donna this close relieves the tension on their bond to a manageable level. Instead, he sits up and brushes the loose grass from his shirt, gives the cat one last pat, and makes his way inside, where Sylvia glares at him. Apparently she hasn't been able to get the microwave working yet.

Donna bangs open the front door, muttering darkly under her breath. She drops her overnight bag, calling out. "Anyone home?" If she's very lucky - and she doubt she is - everyone will be out and she can just go to bed for a few hours.

Though he can tell she's in a rotten mood, the Doctor pops into the front hallway anyway. "Your mum's in the kitchen," he tells her. He lowers his voice. "And I, ah, broke the microwave." He looks a little guilty at that. "Though I'm sure I can get it working again if she'll just let me take a look at it."
