Title: Five Things Devon Doesn't Know About Marc
Pairing: Marc Burch/Devon McTavish (Marc Burch/Robbie Rogers, Marc Burch/Rod Dyachenko)
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Not real, all fiction. I know nothing about these players.
Author's Notes: Done in response to a meme. Turned into a short fic. Around 500 words.
1. The names of all his brothers and sisters. It sounds bad when you put it like that, but really. There are seven of them, he's never met most of them, and Devon's bad with names to begin with. It's not like Marc remembers all of them all the time either -- if Devon's bad with names, Marc's bad with birthdays. Not the kids, so much, but all the in-laws and sometimes even his sisters. Devon makes fun of him for it, but neither of them really wins that one.
2. How much he was into Robbie. If he'd known that, he probably wouldn't have been okay with them having dinner together in Florida, and he definitely wouldn't be okay with how much they talk. It's not a big deal anymore, really, but Marc's never told him how much he liked Robbie at Maryland. He's a little embarrassed by it now, and that's most of the reason he's never told Devon. Like. He still can't really explain what it is -- was -- about Robbie, but god. They made out twice, once in college and once right after Robbie got back from Holland, and if Marc hadn't been traded, he thinks they might have ended up together. Which is the rest of the reason he hasn't told Devon.
3. That he and Bobby almost had a threeway with Rod. Rod passed out on the floor before it could really go anywhere, which is probably a good thing now that Marc thinks about it. Rod's not Devon and it wouldn't have ended well. At least, not as good as things are now. Marc did kiss Rod, just once, right before he passed out, and then he and Bobby fucked on the couch. Devon knows that part, knows that Rod was there, but not the rest. Rod doesn't remember any of it, anyway, so at least that part's not awkward.
4. He really misses his dog. It's hard to have a dog in DC, especially when you have to live with a roommate, but Marc keeps wanting to try. His dog -- Tucker -- is a beagle, which means he needs a lot of running and activity and all the things that Marc's too tired to do when he gets home from training. And the road weeks make it even harder. Marc knows all this, but one of the hardest things about moving from Columbus was having to leave his dog at his parents' house. They send pictures, but it's not the same, and being able to bring Tucker out to DC is one of the biggest reasons Marc wants to make enough money to buy a house. With a yard. A big one.
5. That he worries about the future. Not just "the future," like global warming and overpopulation and all those big things, but their future. Like what'll happen if one of them gets traded or decides to go to Europe. Like what if Devon gets tired of how weird Marc is and they break up and still have to play in the same back four. Stuff like that, and it's kind of stupid, but Marc finds that he cares, more than he thought he would.
