I wish I had a better style, so I was all fancy like.

Also, it makes me angry when people say Marylin Manson started Goth. Considering he's a glam rocker, it doesn't make much sense.
Everyone knows that the goth bands are:

Joy Division
Bauhaus
The Cure
Siouxsie Sue and the Banshees(who I've never listened to, but just might)

You don't want to be fancy. Fancy doesn't work for the awkward people.

Of course, I may be misunderstanding the word. But I'm picturing you sticking to some strict dress code like Jack White.

Please don't do the goth fashion scene.

(I think the band is Siouxie and the Banshees and the lead singer is Siouxie Sioux.)

Yeah, definitely don't go all "goth". You look good the way you are. Way fancier with me... with your button-up shirts. Oh yeah, and most people are just tards about music stuff. So, anyway... Siouxsie Sue is cool. That is all.

Though we did look pretty fancy in those idealized comic book pictures I drew of us. Well, you looked cool, I looked like a floozy.

If I were you, I would go goth. I myself did not go goth when I was at University, and I have regretted it ever since. My mistake at the time was having the hubris not to realize that goth is cool. Now I realize that it is but sadly, the ship has sailed! Cruel fate! But it is not too late for you.

I didn't mean to intend by putting the two ideas next to each other that they were related. Also, I can't tell if you are being sarcastic....

Out of those, Bauhaus is the only one that's goth.

Joy Division were forerunners of goth, but they were really a post-punk band. The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees both went throught a goth phase during the early 80's (and definitely influenced the style quite a bit), but they both have had such long and diverse careers that they can't be pigeon-holed as just goth. Unfortunately, they usually are.

But hey, you're way closer to actual goth than the Marilyn Manson poser-goth types. Check out Clan of Xymox and Sisters of Mercy. I think they're the goth bands.
