I am more than a little shattered by the death of David Bowie. He has been the biggest musical influence in my life, for my entire life. I don’t remember what was the first Bowie song I ever heard as I grew up with his music - my parents had all the albums either on vinyl or 8-track. I remember as a teen longing for my own copies of Diamond Dogs

One of my friends shared something one of her friends wrote to her: in the whole history of the world, we were lucky enough to have lived while David Bowie was creating music. In turns shattering, friendly, witty and futuristic, he has left us with a soundtrack that will continue to shape our lives. And just a lot of decency to go along with it.

I love the fact that we are all listening to the same songs tonight, but able to reach across miles to talk with each other about our shared loss. I think he would have found that funny and fitting. XXX
