Last night just after dinner, there was a weak little knock at the front door (which we never use). It was odd because the dog didn't bark and he normally freaks out at even just a person nonchalantly walking by ( Read more... )

Today in the St. Catharines Standard there was photo of the MTO workers extending the Niagara exit so it's up to specs. Making this exit onto the QEW safer for everyone.

Her death wasn't in vain Melanie, sadly it took her death for the government to come to the conclusion that the Niagara exit was dangerous for everyone and something needed to be done immediately.

When it comes to children, they do not understand the meaning of departure of our loved ones, especially children. Whenever I'm been put in the same situation as yourself. I've told children; "they gone to a happier place where there are no tears". "it takes a village to raise a child" is the motto I've come to embrass. Everyone of us has something to teach a child, be a gesture of good will, a smile or a kind word.

Truly all of us shall not die in vain, no heavenly father could allow such a travesity. Often times we cannot understand his will either.

Do have a wonderful day....

godspeed

Hey Joe, yes you're right...Emily's death was not in vain, as thanks to her they are now indeed fixing that on-ramp (they took down the memorial items and gave them to the family). Not at all to say that I am not happy with the fact that they are FINALLY fixing it...but as Tara says, and I agree completely, "the road was a known danger and should have been fixed BEFORE this unfortunate event took place", so the MTO is not off of my shit list. There were something like 45 accidents on there within the last few years, yet it takes a young girl's death to finally make them sit up and take notice. Unbelievable.

Then, that same day, the neighbor's son asked my Mom, "How are you?", so she replies, "Ok...some days are better than others" and he goes, "Oh, are you sick?" and she's like, "Nooo...." then let it go, realizing their family didn't know. The next day, his mother tells my Mom, "We've just set up the pool for the summer, so Emily can come over and swim..." and Mom had to tell her what happened. The neighbors apparently were following the story in the newspaper and wondered...but then saw Mom's car in our driveway and figured she wasn't the grandmother who was driving in the accident so it couldn't have been our family (why they did not realize that most people have 2 grandmothers, i have no idea), then they must not have paid attention to all the media reports that said my brother (Mark Austin) is her father.

Then when I came home from work on Thursday night, there upon a cross-type structure made out of two wooden boards (for the construction in front of my house) sat a little silk frilly pillow with the word "Princess" written on it...I picked it up then put it back...the next morning the construction workers probably threw it away, but I have no idea how it got there!!?!!!
Then on Saturday at Walmart I saw my friend Krystal with her 2 little nieces, and they apparently went to daycare with Emily...they kept asking me if I was still really sad about her loss, then saying that they loved my hair and earrings...I enjoy other little girls being around me more than ever now.
I feel so strange writing all this sad stuff yet the LJ icon of me is always smiling...:(
