I had a chronic problem at one point with dropping sticks. After it happened in a few less-than-desirable moments (really, when is it a good time to do that?), I consulted a former teacher of mine, and as I suspected, it was a problem I had with my grip. When you play for a while, bad habits have a tendency to slip in without anyone (even teachers) paying attention until it becomes a problem! Hopefully Rob's incident was a one-time deal.
You'll have shows like that, as I'm sure you're aware. I can't even tell you how many times I had similar thoughts. "Wow, that was the worst show ever. It can't get any worse than that!" And then a few shows later, lo and behold, you (collectively and/or individually) have an even worse performance.
Hang in there, man. I still want a copy of that CD.
