The remake. I refuse to watch Japanese horror movies. They don't END. That's just not cool, and part of what freaked me out about the Ring (I didn't know it was s remake of something Japanese when I saw it). There needs to be an end.
:-O! The Japanese are the best at making horror movies in the world - I've studied several countries' outputs (European/American/Asian) during my English and Film degree and I definitely think the Japanese do it best.
The originals is called 'Ringu' - definitely worth a watch. They do the 'girl climbing out of the TV' scene a thousand times better. American/European horror tends to focus on frightening people by going BOO! Japanese horror (although they do love their gore, just as much as the next American) focuses more on just creeping you the hell out....
Maybe start with 'Battle Royale'. That's a nice one to ease you in :-)
*headshake* I appreciate the recs, but nein. I can get Ver in here to testify; it took me years before I could even hear the thing mentioned without freaking out.
It's funny because I was going to answer this question but no one today would even "get" what I was frightened about. I mean, in today's jaded world, 2 old black and white movies would mean nothing. You can see them on TV. But in the 1950's, in a dark theatre, watching The Blob scared the freaking shit outta me. I screamed my head off. Ok, I was like 4. And the one with the lady and the dust bunny from hell (I think it was an Outer Limit show) also had me screaming. Mom had a hella time getting me to vacuum after that. "You want me to be eaten by the dust monster?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!"...
Never saw Ringu. Dunno why; probably didn't want to buy it and not much into horror flicks anyhow. Might have rented it but we don't have rental places around here any more. :P
I will NOT force you to watch it however. (((hugs you with the lights on))
