Many of the attitudes that have irritated me of late...

...basically boil down to this. I was extremely prone to such thinking, myself, when I was a lad, but I assumed that it was just something one grew out of. It is becoming increasingly clear that that is not at all the case.

He does. Every year, all over this country. School board, city council, President, you name it, he does it all.

It's like getting socks for Christmas. When you're a kid and people give you value packs of socks from Kmart, you stare at them like they should die and still be embarrassed after they die for giving you such a lame gift...

Then comes that Christmas when you open up that package of socks and think, "Oh yay! An extra week before I have to do laundry!"

And you suspect that perhaps you might be getting old.

Then comes that even later Christmas when you open up that last shiny gift and smile and say thanks while privately thinking "What, no socks? I could have actually used those."

And then you know you have gotten old.

The perfect gift is something that someone really wants, yet would not have bought for themselves for whatever reason. I do think socks would qualify in this case, if only because I'm much more likely to go and buy something "cool" and hate spending money on socks. But I do like socks.
