As we move along in this never-ending Winchester saga and the travails and pains of our beloved Dean Winchester, after last week's episode Dean is definitely starting to come unglued. He is in such pain that he is now drinking DURING the job. That is not a good sign. Bravo to Sam for trying to get Dean to talk, but alas, Dean once again does his best imitation of a safe and keeps all his emotions locked away.
I believe Dean is afraid to let his thoughts and pain out. Afraid to tell Sam his secret because of how He thinks Sam will react, afraid to talk because of the pain that will ensue by talking. But what Dean truly doesn't realize is that talking about his pains is the ONE way to let all that go. You have to let go someway and talking about your feelings, your pain, is a way of not giving that anymore power and letting it all go.
At the end of the episode, Sam did get Dean to say something. Kudos to Sam for telling Dean that the "stuff" that is eating away at him doesn't just go away and then Dean's reply? That there is always something eating away at him. That's who he is. Very true, Dean. That is who you are, and unfortunately, growing up you were never given the opportunity to learn how to cope with all the "stuff" that comes around, so you hang on to it. And it grows and festers within your heart and your soul and you begin to be weighed down by it all. And then more guilt and pain gets heaped on top of everything else and it grows and it festers until it becomes this big black hole in your soul that you do anything you can to numb the pain.
Over the years there has been plenty of "stuff" that Dean feels responsible for, "stuff" that he feels guilty about, "stuff" that is eating away at him. We could write books about all the "stuff" that he is holding in. So, instead of talking about it I want to highlight this vid I saw the other day.
The song is "The Toll" by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. (Never heard of them but this is a good song.) And the Vid by
zimshan is entitled "The Toll." The vid deals a good part with Lisa and Ben, which is something I am sure he is still feeling guilty about and burdening him, but it also highlights so many other things that Dean is feeling responsible and guilty for. This really truly highlights a lot of the reasons for Dean's pain, going all the way back to his mother, which is a long time to be holding on to all this "stuff," and alot of the things that are eating away at him. Things that are definitely taking a "TOLL" on Dean's well being. Oh Dean. Talk to Sam, please????? Unload yourself and let it all go. Please????
