thanks! :D the chickens are doing very well, i'm pretty impressed with them actually. we took the "old school" method of raising them, like what people 100 years ago did before indoor heating was available... just gave them an open-air coop and they seem to be way healthier (and happier) than factory chickens. one of the hens actually went broody in october and hatched out 6 chicks, which amazingly enough have been very cold-hardy and we just introduced them into the flock today.

It's TOTALLY doable! My cousin in Montana has one. Her husband is foreman of a huge cattle ranch, and he used scavenged windows from old buildings on the ranch, plus some he got from friends who are in construction. It's quite large, and she grows incredible stuff year-round; she even won some prizes for her veggies at the state fair last year!
Too bad you're not in WA, 'cause I'd give you some that are hanging out by the side of my house. My brother scrounged them from several construction sites, with the intent of making them into a greenhouse for our Mom, but it never happened, and I'm sure it never will.
omg, I know this is an old pot but I want to do all of those things! apart from the koi, but that's a good idea. I thought of raising crickets to sell to reptile people, but apparently they are noisy
