I managed to almost entirely avoid science classes in school, but, now that the numerous and striking textbook inaccurasies, have come to light, I don't feel like I missed too much. So far science is a lot like history; it's all biased. I know there are well meaning, good-intentioned scientists who aim to study things objectively. With the existence of quarks which react to intention alone, I question whether anything can truly be viewed objectively. And there, of course, have always been scientists who are only out to prove their own theory, and who disregard any evidence that disproves it. I find young-earth theory to be laughable, but it is interesting to note that a canyon 1/40th the size of the grand canyon (which was supposedly formed soley due to the river) was formed in a single day when Mt. St. Helens erupted in 1980. So neither explanation is perfect.
