He doesn't have access to LJ from work so you may be out of luck here, I'm afraid ;)

Rewind and record are both features I hadn't thought of, and are quite interesting, but probably the cheap end is where I'm looking.

Thanks for the heads-up about DAB+. Typical problem of the evolution of standards and implementations.

I figured it was unlikely, but the subject line was too tempting...

I'm not sure Doc P. would approve, but all the people I know who have DABs made by Pure seem very impressed with them. Don't know how they compare pricewise to the alternatives, though.

They look competitive on price and availability.

I have a DAB radio from Pure, and it's very nice. It has a line out to connect to my stereo too. Really solid, great sound.

The posher models even have line in for ipods etc

Shame I can't get many DAB stations other than the BBC

I bought one of these1,2 for the kitchen.

It's physically small and very cheap and it runs on mains or batteries. It features alphabetic channel selection, and has three 'preset' buttons you can programme with your favourites.

Its only drawback is a relatively low maximum volume, which means it struggles to with the extractor fan on full. That may not be an issue depending on where you're planning on using it.

[1] - Well technically mine's only an XDRS50. I don't know what the extra 5 gets you.
[2] - Also available here.
