Tonks sighed as she set her tea cup on the table. She patted the barely visible bump of her tummy.
"Wotcher, Lil Knut. It's been four days, and your father isn't back yet, the prat. I probably shouldn't call your father a prat in front of you, but I'm fairly certain you won't remember anything I say," Tonks chuckled wetly as a tear rolled down her cheek.
Tonks swiped at her tear, "Look at me! I can't even decide whether to laugh or cry. I was never much for crying before, Knut." Tonks paused thoughtfully. "The Healer said you were about the size of a Knut, but that's not a very good name. We'll . . . I'll have to think of something else." Tonks sighed.
"I really want a Firewhisky! . . . Don't worry, I wouldn't do that to you, but that's my normal way of operating, yeah? If I had a shite day, I'd toss back a few shots with Dad or with friends . . . I probably shouldn't swear in front of you, either . . . This mum stuff isn't easy. At least I have some time to practice. I know you'll be worth it. Will you look like me? Will you be a Metamorphmagus? I'm looking forward to meeting you and finding out!" Tonks laughed.
"I was so excited when I found out I was pregnant. Growing up, I never wanted children, but when I fell in love with your father I suddenly wanted his children. We planned to wait, but we forgot the charm after Dumbledore was killed. That's probably more information than you need, Knut, but I don't regret it for a second. I hope you father doesn't . . ."
"No, your father could never regret you. He's just having an attack of Stupid Pratness. He's going to get better and return to us. I know it." Tonks nodded with determination.
"I met your father at the first Order meeting. I had confessed to Mad-Eye that I didn't think Cousin Sirius was guilty. I remembered Sirius playing dolls with me when I was a little girl. My dollies were always the Aurors and Sirius' were the criminals." Tonks sighed. "That's not as funny as it used to be. He was a very good pretend criminal, but I just couldn't see him killing all those people for real. I'm so thankful I was right! I learned Sirius was innocent when Mad-Eye and Kingsley invited me to join a special group to help Dumbledore, the Order of the Phoenix."
"At the first meeting, I was reunited with Sirius after years apart. Then Molly made dinner and sat me next to your father. I fancied him immediately . . . and promptly knocked my entire bowl of soup into his lap . . ." Tonks heard a noise and stopped talking, drawing her wand as she rose from the table.
Before she could go investigate, she heard, "Dora? I'm home."
