Tonks sat on her bed, flipping through her calendar at random. 'Let's see...meeting...paper deadlines...training...' Her voice trailed off, as she blinked at what she had written for March 3rd: Remus' birthday ( Read more... )

Remus had been sitting in his room, absorbed in the contents of a book when a sudden muffled cry of a familiar feline demanded his attention. Sure enough when Remus went to the door, the sleek form of Tonks's cat invited herself in.

"Oh hello there Luna," he said and scratched her velvet ears affectionatly. This elicted a delighted pur as the cat took residence in the armchair he had just been sitting in. She presented her neck, allowing the werewolf to take the small parchment tied to her collar.

He scanned it, smiling to himself. Two months late but it's the thought that counts, Remus thought with amusement. Pulling out a blank parchment from under a large pile of books and papers at his unused desk, Remus wrote a small reply:

OWL to; Tonks
Dear, it's quite alright! Even I hardly remember my own birthday...with good reason too, I don't need a reminder of how old I'm getting! But if you would like to go out for dinner this weekend, we can make a trip to London. I'm sure Dumbledore would not mind if we were gone this Saturday ( ... )

Tonks paced her bedroom, waiting anxiously for her cat to come back. I hope he's not hurt or anything....gods, I can't believe I forgot about it!

A sudden mew from outside the door caused her to open the door quickly, letting Luna slip back inside. 'Did he write back?' Luna meowed, curling up in front of the fireplace on her side, the parchment visibly tied to her neck.

Tonks walked over and sat beside her cat, carefully untying the parchment. Luna had closed her eyes, and began purring quietly as she began to doze off. 'Thank you,' Tonks whispered to her kitten as she got up and sat down on her bed and opened the letter.

Her eyes brightened in delight as she read Remus' reply. Quickly, but quietly so as not to wake up her feline friend, she wrote back to him.

Owl to Remus

Remus, I would love to have dinner with you this weekend. Would you like to meet me in the library tomorrow and we can plan things out ( ... )

A short while after Luna departed the ex-professor's chambers there was a loud screech at his window where one of the school's barn owls fluttered against the stained-glass in a repeated attempt to get his attention. "Easy there!" He said, unlatching the window and allowing the avian creature inside.

After a moment of circling the room, the small bird took refuge atop his bed post. It took some coaxing but eventually, Remus was able to seize the letter and read it to himself.

He chuckled, noting with a twinge of mirth that she had decided to use her first name. Pulling out a quill to write his reply, Remus wrote:

OWL to; Nymphadora

The library is quite fine with me, I have to return a few books anyways. Does around seven work for you?

...Oh and we shall see how handsome you find me when I am eighty and what's left of my hair has turned blue.

Take care love,
Remus

At that, he tied off the parchment and presented it to the owl. In a gust of feathers, the bird took off to deliver the reply.

Tonks had finished her rounds for the day, and had just finished putting her pajamas on when she noticed the barn owl she had used to send Remus the owl sitting in a corner, looking slightly ruffled, and not in a good way.

'Oh...I'm sorry,' she apologized, reaching a hand out to take the peice of parchment attached to his leg. 'You must be tired.'

The owl bit her hand with an indignant hoot. 'Ow! Okay, okay, just let me get my letter,' she grumbled. She untied the parchment, and read it. Yawning, she dipped her quill and wrote a short reply:

Owl to Remus

Around seven sounds great. I'll see you there then!

And I think you'll find it interesting that I think blue would look quite attractive on you. I could even change my hair color to match yours!

See you tomorrow evening!

Love,

Tonks Tonks went to tie the parchment to the owl's leg. The owl flapped its wings in protest. 'Listen, I know you're tired. I am too. But just deliver this to him one more time, and then you can go back to the owlrey, I promise ( ... )
