I admit I'm a bit of a sony fan but I ADORE my PS3 T3T

What I like best about it is that it's a great device for a lot of media (sry, I don't know if the Xbox is a music/dvd/filereader/computer/browser as well--and it automatically upscales DVDs, AVIs, etc to a great resolution so that I can watch something like a shitty 600px wide anime on a 47" 1080p HDTV screen and it looks FANTASTIC. It also upscales old PS2 games (but I don't think the new PS3s are backwards compatible...?) and I've been able to enjoy DDS and Nocturne at almost HD quality and it's just $(*%*&#)$%&#*)%&@*$)W <33

I really enjoy high quality sound so bluray CDs also sound awesome when you play it through the PS3... I've also been picking up old 70s 80s movies that ahve been remasterd for blu-ray and the expereince is totally AMAZING even my parents are in love with my PS3 which is saying something!

There are a lot lot lot of downloadable games for the PS3 that I think are fantastic that are PS3 exlusive i.e. echochrome, flower, nobynoby boy, etc T3T

Ohhh, I hadn't actually thought much about other media. Microsoft likes to make that stuff a huge pain in the ass on Xbox, so I don't use it for anything but playing games. Having something that could power and upscale lower-quality media files on a 1080p would be pretty amazing (plus Blu-Ray, I am all for Blu-Ray).

Yeah, I think I've heard they're ending the backwards-compatibility. SOB

Hmmm, I will take what you've said into serious consideration! Thanks for the help! :D

Vagrant Story is the only reason I've used the PS3 regularly since we got it, no joke. I admit I'm pretty angry at Sony this round because of the way they're treating us as consumers (and their interfaces are getting less and less fathomable as time goes on).

You can get Braid on the 360 or PC already! It used to be a 360 exclusive.

Hmm, that's not a good sell. The end of backwards-compatibility kind of upsets me too.

Oh! I don't know, for some reason I think I thought it was PS3-exclusive. Durr.

We don't have any kind of upscaling devices (or even a half-decent DVD player, ours is still a VCR/DVD combo, lolol) so Blu-Ray is a favorable option, but since it is a game console, I'd like to have enough exclusive games for it too to make it worthwhile...

We use the 360 for DVDs, but we tend to stick to pirated TV these days. For video and music we just stream everything to the 360 from our laptops or stick a USB key into the front of it; honestly the experience is identical on either console.

A PS3 is still the best Blu-Ray player you can get (but discs here are so expensive that I doubt our collection will grow past 3 for several months). Uncharted 2 is a pretty amazing game, but I'm not sure it's worth buying an entire console for!

I haven't really tried to do anything besides play games on the 360, so I've yet to try to turn it into a media center.

Blu-Rays are getting really cheap here ($25 USD-ish for some new releases, and some even as cheap as 19.99). I held off on Blu-Ray for a long time because of the expense, but now that they're finally coming down, I'm thinking more about getting a player.

Yeah, I really want to be able to find enough games to populate it and justify the purchase. Most of what I've heard is great is already available on multiple consoles... and I definitely agree that one game does not justify a console purchase (except maybe SMTIV, that would probably push me to buy it, hur).

I may trade my 360 to my nephew for his PS3 temporarily to try it out... then I can rent Uncharted 2 and such and see if the whole package is worth it to me.

Definitely get Braid for the 360 if you're eager to play it. It's a fantastic game anyway, and I prefer the 360 Marketplace to the PSN Store any day of the week.

OH. WILL DO THEN.

I'm trying to figure out if I can get by with just borrowing my nephew's PS3 (which he won, for free, back when they came out) for stuff but at the same time I find myself really wanting Blu-Ray.

I was basically holding out for two things: God of War III and SMTIV (god knows when that's coming out and if they'll end exclusivity), but...

I'm trying to think how to rate the PS3. This is not easy.

I...the Blu-Ray is lovely. Some of the exclusive titles are really good -- Uncharted, in particular, though GoW3 and The Last Guardian look exceptionally good. I'm just...disenchanted, honestly. Happy to have it, definitely! But glad I didn't buy it myself.

The fact I had to set up an established connection for the PS3's internet sort of turned me off, too. Sure, I did it, but I never had to go into my router's page for ANY OTHER SYSTEM I OWN. 360, Wii, PSP, DS, my iPhone, my computers -- no problem! PS3? "LOL SORRY NO also you'll have to guess/google what the problem is"

Hmmm, since I would be buying it myself that's a hard sell. I do very much want Blu-Ray on our nice, big new 1080p, but I hate to buy a console for like three games.

God, yes, The Last Guardian. *_* But still, I'm trying to decide if there's enough exclusivity to validate the purchase. I love my 360 very much, and I still love my PS2, but if the new consoles have no backwards-compatibility (and thus no upscaling of old PS2 titles) that reduces the personal value to me quite a bit.

Oh, what! That's crap, I had kind of (mistakenly, obviously) assumed the PS3 would be easy to hook up online. :/

Now that I have an HDTV I've been using my PS3 alot! Blu-ray looks really fantastic with 1080p. And I agree with 5cmprince it makes a pretty good media center (especially with PS3 Media Server). I find I have a good selection of games... though if you already a 360, that does cut down things alot (I don't have a 360 yet, so I'm kinda in the same position as you, just with the opposite console lol). Anyway here's the exclusives I'd rec...

MGS4 (if you're a fan of the series)
Demon's Souls (juuuust started this and I'm digging it quite a bit)
Folklore (one of my many unfinished games lol, I liked what I played alot though)
Little Big Planet (fun if you play multiplayer)
Heavenly Sword is decent if you can get it for cheap imo
And while I haven't played my copy yet, I hear alot of good things about Valkyria Chronicles
I'm also super excited about The Last Guardian and 3D Dot Heroes <3

Yes Blu-Ray is sounding more and more attractive now that the prices have come down and we have this 1080p! Hi-def with the Xbox already looks great, but I would really love me some Blu-Ray. :3

Thanks for the recommendations! And yessss, lord, The Last Guardian looks stunning. And then there's the whole "Kaneko is working on SMTIV" theory...

Well.. Little Big Planet. I lust after that game, but share many of the same concerns (Will I actually use it? How much? Is it worth it?).

And just to add to the Braid fans in the audience: Braid is available through both Greenhouse and Steam for the PC. It handles beautifully with the keyboard interface, so don't let that deter you. Great, great game.
