Judging by the turnout in Perth, I estimate that they had about 50 guys to choose from. After that, its about picking the X guys who fit different niches. Asian Guy. Art/Politics Guy. Computer Guy. Video Games Guy. Rocket Scientist. Guy Who Collects Something Weird. SciFi Guy. Young University Lecturer Guy. Accountant Guy. Maybe even Chef Guy? Its the same sterotyping model Survivor started and The Amazing Race really cemented.
Well and good if one fits multiple niches (The Amazing Race frequently mixes Black People with Siblings or Married Couple, or Gay People with New Relationship or Parent/Child, and so on), but my problem (I think) is that Im too much of a broad geek - in Amazing Race terms, Im a black gay guy from Arkansas who is racing with my dad, who I am also married to. More, the geek niches I fit most readily are also the ones with the most competition.
If they do a second season, I think Ill be better able to market myself and Ill have a better shot.
Maybe it's because you're gay! I mean that in a good way, right? I mean, it's ironic. I can't possibly be insulting you because the English language has evolved to the point that I can call you an unenlightened, ugly prat and have it mean the same as awesome.
...or something. Yeah, your trolling skills only invite other trolls and I happen to enjoy it intensely.
Oh and I don't buy your argument that the word "gay" has evolved into a meaning that is totally separate from homophobia. Most people who would use the pejorative term "gay" don't have a high opinion of homosexuals. They're usually the ones who beat up kids while accusing said kids of being queer or fags. Or perhaps they're more subtly unpleasant: voting against gay rights, denying health care to gay couples, stripping adoptions away from gay parents
( ... )
A lot of people jump on this "gay violence" bandwagon. Its like we have two different pejoratives. First you have "gay" with the meaning of a strong BAD. Bad, incorrect, taboo, wrong, broken. Then you have "gay" meaning "lame", or "a sub-optimal outcome". It is generally easy to tell the difference. In WoW, the one I see most commonly (outside of the trolls in trade chat) is "gay loot", which is clearly the latter definition.
I realise that, to someone in your position, there might not be a lot of difference between the two. But, to me, privileged (ha!) white boy, it seems clear. The first usage is a hate term. The latter is a term of apathy. People using the latter term are - I strongly suspect - not likely to be involved in anti-gay anything. They use the word because it is available to them, and since it is not a pronoun or a taboo term or a trademark of the homosexual community. Or is it? Can I not describe a happy person as gay any more?
I, personally, am not against gay rights, which is to say, I am not against human rights.

Did they give a reason or anything like that?

I completly didn't remember who you were here until I check your profile and saw Grimtar there.
I don't play WoW anymore as it's just gotten too boring to me, but I still log in here and there to check my mail.
Anyways, off to check the rest of the people who have me as friends on LJ. Seeya.
