Harry Potter and the WTF

Jul 21, 2007 07:44

I had a lovely evening dressed as a Ravenclaw and with HP fen, fandomers and non-fandomers alike. Got home from Barnes & Noble around 1:30, finished HBP around 2:00am, and then started DH.

Finished about 15 minutes ago.

Estimated Reading Time: 5.5 hours.

Cut for sad musings about Deathly Hollows )

Gah. Remus/Tonks. Even Lupin seemed to hate it the whole time which made me feel kind of sick. Could he have been any less interested? Could he have invented any more reasons for avoiding her like the plague whenever he could? Gee, what a great marriage ( ... )

God, I know. I feel CHEATED. And I hate that feeling.

I also thought Lupin was like, Imperiussed or something, or a wizard in disguise. Because uh, hello randomly OOC scene? Not that the Remus/Tonks was EVER IC to begin with... :p

The Albus/Grindelwald was um. Awesome. And unexpected. And deserving of its own prequel, JK, and not lumped into book 7, taking precious time away from my Snape and Draco and others.

And I'm sorry, but I can't take Draco's offspring seriously when he's named after a PSYCHOTIC FARSCAPE CHARACTER.

Yeah. I honestly can't buy that pairing and if anything the book made it even harder to support it. XD Ew.

I'm still not convinced that was his kid and I think he left rather than try to explain that it was someone else's kid. XD

YES. That was great. I kept picturing them being like those guys in The Prestige. XD

See I was just happy that he wasn't named for some dead wizard.

I just hate how everyone paired off with everyone else to have babies and adventures in "all wizards are het lane". XD WTF. And no one even talks about the "war" that happened. That was so weak.

"All was well." is probably the lamest last sentence ever.

I thought the last word was supposed to be "scar"? When did JK decide that fandom was having too much fun and that she needed to wrap everything up in a nice neat heteronormative package?

I loved it, myself. But, yeah, completely with you on the Draco and Snape thing. Snape wasn't too bad of a let-down, but I feel cheated.

Ginny... I can't stand her, I can't stand the Harry and Ginny relationship (it makes no sense) and all mentions of her merely distracted.

The final major bite, like, oh Voldemort's death felt rushed. Like JKR knew she was nearing the end and just wanted to hurry up and finish.

THE EPILOGUE SUCKED. It read like bad, cliche fanfic. And it just... sucked. Fine, they got married and bred, that's great. But, uh, is that it? What about every other character, what about the rest of Harry's life in between? The aftermath of the war. Hell what does Harry do?

That's really the only thing that pissed me off. Otherwise, I loved it.
