Pfft. Abraham Lincoln was no conservative, by the standards of his own day. He certainly wasn't shy about exceeding the bounds of his Constitutional authority either.

Ronald Reagan was the exceptional, atypical Republican. (Him and a few similar people like Barry Goldwater.) It has taken them thirty years but the GOP is finally on the verge of exorcising his influence from their ranks.
