I would agree. People do constantly reference "the founding fathers" and "the framers" when speaking of values we supposedly held then and not now; those values were really just lipservice and doublespeak then, as they are now. It's convenient and less stressful for people who have to "make a living" to think of our country as having noble beginnings, and omitting our sour parts has allowed us to continue on a dangerous path...

The book he wrote is very good though. I don't know if you've read it, but it's a pretty quick read with lots of crazy details.
