Back in the old days, first-person shooters were kind of boring to play with other people, if you ask me. It was all running around trying to grab the rocket launcher, hiding in corners and shooting people who aren't paying attention. I <3 TF2. It's an excellent game. I'd really recommend a non-console version though; the PC version is patched frequently with meaningful bug fixes and gameplay updates while the console versions stagnate. Thanks to new maps, gameplay changes and bug fixes the PC game is already very, very different than it was when it launched. And generally much better. For example, the Pyro was just rebalanced to make the class more powerful (and fun).

Yeah, I got the PC version last night. It's been so long since I played a FPS that I was getting creamed, though. I couldn't seem to find a decent server for newbs. Any recommendation / starting points / resources?

TF2 definitely has a learning curve. I don't have any servers to recommend since I just play on whatever has the lowest ping and agreeable rules/map. (I do really like TheVille.org's servers, but the play level there is high.)

I suggest giving the TF2 Wiki a good browsing. You'll pick up lots of useful bits about the game like how damage greatly decreases over distance, exactly how fast each class is, and how classes like the Spy and Engy work (or don't work). These little things can help quite a lot. Plus, you know, more general things that I can't even think of to mention right now.

Actually I wrote up some tips for someone else a while back. I'll see if I can find them.
