it kind of looks freaky... especially the legs and arms.

Which white balls? The ones that make up the chicken and the snowman and the rabbit up in the corner? Those are made out of quail eggs. The arms and legs of the Prince are made from parsley stems, since that character has really thin sticks for limbs.

it looks pretty cool, not very tasty (imo). though i wish someone like a Svankmajer would come along and turn that bento into some short film.

Yeah, I imagine they're hard-boiled. Bento are usually served cold, and I'm not super fond of some of the ingredients (like the thinly folded egg, or even cold curry) but I guess the point is more to look amazing :D
