Its interesting how different parts of this city are such polar opposites of themselves. There's a few sidestreets in the center of down that seem straight out of a movie. I was probably 8 I think... 3rd grade or so, before I moved to Germantown. It's funny how different an experience you can have with a difference of a decade or so.
The area hadn't erupted into violence the way it did in the late 90's, there were no soldiers on every street corner.
My biggest fear was chicken pox (got it the day after we arrived) or getting lost in the market we always went to and not being able to find my way back to St. George's where my dad was staying.
In the market, I lost a stuffed animal pizza dude who turned inside out into his own oven.
I still have a t-shirt in my closet of snoopy dressed up with a jamulka and carrying the israeli flag.
A couple years later that market we shopped at was suicide bombed.
