Memories of a decade ago

Dec 30, 2019 14:21

I like reading retrospectives on the decade just past, but I don't have the energy to do one myself. Instead, I dug up my year in review for 2009, like a mini time capsule.

Highlights:

* Post title: Can you believe it's been ten years since we were partying like it was 1999?
- Man, I feel old.

* What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before? Visited New Zealand. Attended my high school reunion. Fell into an RPF fandom.
- I'm excited about visiting New Zealand again next year!
- I've been to a couple more high school reunions since.
- Ahh, that was the summer of tennis fandom. I never imagined that ten years on, those same players would still be winning grand slams.

* What was your biggest achievement of the year? Getting my own place.
- I can't believe it's been ten years. Still something I'm deeply thankful for.

* Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Climate change deniers and dithering governments. What political issue stirred you the most? Climate change.
- Well, this is appalling and depressing. Where are we ten years on? And it wasn't even a new issue back then!

* What did you get really, really, really excited about? Rock Musical Bleach!
- Oh, Bleach. I was so into you. Maybe one day I've finally finish the manga?

* What song will always remind you of 2009? Viva La Vida by Coldplay. (Face it, it was everywhere.)
- I still really like it!

* What do you wish you'd done more of? Writing. What do you wish you'd done less of? Procrastination.
- Dammit, still the story of my life.

* What was your favorite TV program? Lost. Everything is paying off now, peoples!
- It was so good! I miss following a show week by week, with all the anticipation and speculation and sharing the experience with everyone else.

* Who was the best new person you met? Can I say my baby cousin? (Literally a new person!)
- Not a baby anymore! Seeing how quickly kids grow up is a stark measure of time passing.

* Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009. The importance of kindness.
- Still one of the most valuable life lessons I know.
