Anyway, here's my year in review.
My fandom year
Fanfic: All the fic I wrote this year was for fandom exchanges. I took part in Past Imperfect Future Unknown, Chocolate Box, Hurt/Comfort, Rule 63, Trick or Treat, and Yuletide.
I wrote 10 stories this year:
1 - Chronicles of Amber - (
A Year in Rebma)
1 - The Gambler's Game - (
And The Devil Takes His Due)
1 - Good Omens - (
Festival Fortunes)
1 - Labyrinth - (
The Labyrinth of Time)
1 - The Lord of the Rings - (
A Fire Shall Be Woken)
1 - Seafort Saga - (
Haven)
2 - The Silmarillion - (
Dreams of Fire and Gold and
Wish Upon A Falling Star)
2 - Yuletide fandoms (to be revealed)
Fandoms: Okay, I read a lot of Good Omens fic this year.
Platforms: I continued posting to Dreamwidth and crossposting to LiveJournal. However, as of a few days ago, crossposting seems to be broken, with the fix time unknown. I sometimes reblogged pretty pictures on Tumblr: last year a lot of FFXV, this year a lot of Good Omens. I continued to forget I have a Discord account.
2019 in review
1. What did you do in 2019 that you'd never done before?
Joined Audible. Joined Patreon. Visited a lot of brand new libraries.
... Hmm, maybe I need to set some ambitious goals to expand my horizons.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Still a work in progress.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes.
5. What countries did you visit?
None, just interstate travel.
6. What would you like to have in 2020 that you lacked in 2019?
Focus on what matters, and the persistence to follow through.
7. What date from 2019 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
A few different dates, for various life events.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I honestly don't know. I wrote some stuff?
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being better at building bridges between people.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing serious, just colds and things.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Tickets to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! It was worth the wait.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Climate action activists.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Various politicians and voters.
14. Where did most of your money go?
The mortgage.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Good Omens.
16. What song will always remind you of 2019?
I'm not sure there is one this year.
17. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing, organising, and decluttering.
18. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating on the internet.
19. How will you be spending Christmas?
With family.
20. What was your favorite TV program?
This is tough. I still find The Good Place the most heartwarming, hilarious, and meaningful show now running. But Good Omens was wonderful in so many ways and propelled me back into the fandom. And Chernobyl was as incredible and moving as everyone said it was.
21. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Sigh. It's still always related to politics. I should probably ditch this question altogether, it doesn't add anything to keep thinking about hate.
22. What was the best book you read?
There was an abundance of riches this year. But if I can include manga, Monster by Naoki Urasawa was possibly the most compelling.
23. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Pentatonix (through one of the Good Omens vids set to "Hallelujah"). Their version of "Hallelujah" is moving, their version of "Jolene" is haunting, and their various Christmas carols are catchy.
24. What did you want and get?
Keeping in better touch with people.
25. What was your favorite film of this year?
Late to the party, but Zootopia was pure delight. And Detective Pikachu was equally a joy to watch. I feel like I also have to acknowledge all those Michael Sheen movies I sat through, ranging from Frost/Nixon to Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.
26. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Cake with family. Older but wiser.
27. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Last year I said an impeachment, so there's that. Though I would also say various election results going a different way.
28. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2019?
Practical.
29. What kept you sane?
As always, friends and family.
30. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Okay, Good Omens led me to hunt down Michael Sheen's filmography. He always commits 100%, whether it's being an angel, Tony Blair, or werewolf!Spartacus.
31. What political issue stirred you the most?
The treatment of refugees and the reality of climate change.
32. Who did you miss?
Absent friends.
33. Who was the best new person you met?
New persons who were born this year.
34. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2019:
You can't do everything, so what is most important to you?
35. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
We're never going back
The past is in the past
Let it go, let it go
Then we'll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
The fear and cold are gone
Here we stand
In the light of day
Happy New Year! See you all in 2020.
